How can I set the partition size when installing ESXi 6.5?  I can select the disk but do not have options to change partition size.  Do I need to go in prior and create the partition?

Hello all,
I was just wondering if someone can set me straight with the correct and I guess recommended way to add CPUs to a VMware VM.
So for instance if we needed to bump a vm from 4 CPUs to 6 CPUs, from the web client would I change the setting under CPU from 4 to 6 or would I change the setting under Cores per socket to 6?
I just want to be clear and make sure we are setting the CPU settings on our vms the best or proper way.

What would be the best backup solution for the following resources?

Solution must be workable with Exchange 2016 Server having DAG and must have application aware processing. Environment is Vmware Esxi 6.7.
Currently we have deployed VEEAM for application aware backup of Exchange Server VM. It was running smoothly but eventually we are having multiple snapshot creation issues from the last couple of months and this enforced us to make a decision of replacing VEEAM with better solution workable with vmware. We would appreciate your suggestions in this regard.

Exchange server which needs to be backed-up is having all databases in Passive Healthy State so production might not be impacted.

have an old 5.5 esxi host (same vcenter) Out of need due to resources on another host I had to build an exchange server on it.  It didnt' have much in the way of diskspace and because of the swap file taking up 50gb I only have 400mb left on the local storage, my mailbox databases reside on an iscsi volume. OS on local.  I can't even backup because of the low space on local. I want to move that OS drive to the Iscsi Volume. Is it as simple as turning VM off, migrate and powering on?

Aloha,

I'm using VCSA 6.7U1 fully updated. In session list, I see many sessions with the name vsphere-prod\vpxd-extension then identical hex codes. All have been idle since 3-29. Any idea what they may be or how I can research them.

Mahalo,

We have two separate sites, and they are linked with a high-speed network. Site A has a Vcenter version 6.X with vDS and Site B has vCenter 6.5  U2 with vDS. I am palming to upgrade both sites with vCenter 6.7, and I am thinking of implementing vCenter HA to manage both locations.
Let me describe my environment
Site A
VCSA6.* with Embedded PSC ,  srva.mydomain.local
vDS switches for the iscsi, virtual network, vmotion
Esxi mgmt network 192.168.3*
vCSA is in virtual network 10.10.1.*
Site B
vCSA 6.5 U2 with Embedded PSC, srv2.mydomaon.local
vDS switches for SCSI, VMotion, virtual network.
ESxi mgmt network 192.168.2.*
vCSA is in virtual network 10.50.1.*
I want to make one vCenter (Site A) as active and should include both sites A and Site B ESXi hosts in a separate cluster (cluster A and Cluster B) and make Site B as passive. Is it possible to do?
I have been reading about HA and Enhanced link mode etc, but they all talking about keeping the HA in one site.
I can not find the answer.
Can someone shed me some light and help me on this if it is possible?

Hi
I'm trying to test weather Visual Studio Code - Code Editing. Redefined with the Excel Viewer - Visual Studio Marketplace plugin will work under fedora 12  stand alone (No Internet)

I have a fedora 17 running in a VM VirtualBox at home, I know it's the wrong version, but I figured it would be close enough for this test
having tried to install visualstudio code on the stand alone I know it has dependencies  See Here

unfortunately the Firefox  version wont load the above links, Nor experts-exchange.com, I keep getting connection reset errors other pages load like google and stackoverflow

The Guest additions won't install either so I can't access drives on the host machine, a USB drive nor shared clipboard etc
I get error
Guest additions: Kernel headers not found for target kernel

I need to move several VMWare Workstation Pro VM files from one drive to another due to space issues.

What steps must be followed to perform this migration?

How to migrate all VMs from VMWARE to HYPERV ?
Do you have some steps or a manual maybe ?

Hi,
I am using ESXi 6.0
I see a warning "vSphere HA failover operation in progress in cluster XXX in datacenter DC YYY: 1 VMs being restarted, 0 VMs waiting for a
retry, 0 VMs waiting for resources, 0 inaccessible Virtual SAN VMs". Apparantly, all VMs are up&runnig (according to our monitoring), so I assume this is cosmetic.
Anyway, how can I identify which VM is restarting?
Thank you

Hi,

I am currently using Veeam Backup and Replication for backing up my VMware VM's. I have several large VM's that are not in use but I want to keep stored in cold storage, preferably in the cloud maybe AWS or Azure. As of right now Veeam does not have a way of directly taking a specific backup of a VM and putting it into AWS. I want specific VM's to go into cold storage and then delete them from VMware.

Is there any way (with Veeam or without) for me to backup specific VM's and put them into cold storage in a way that I could restore smoothly back into on premise if necessary?

Installed
VMWare Client Integration Plugin v6.2 (For Internet Explorer 11 and Firefox Ver. 66)
and
VMWare Client Integration Pluginv6.0 (For Google Chrome Version 73.0.3683.103 (Official Build) (64-bit))
on a
Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 (64-bit) PC.

What Works
- ISO upload to VMWare vCloud Director Catalog works using Internet Explorer 11 only (does not work with Chrome and Firefox) on the PC.

Workaround in place - Console Content Access works for all the same VMs via a Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Server from within the same environment (setup by someone else not contactable)
(This Server will be decommissioned soon - so need the console working on the PC before the server gets decommissioned)

What Does not work
– VMWare vCloud Director WebMKSConsole Content Access – for any VMs – using any Web Browser (IE, Firefox or Chrome)

Get the following screen – doesn’t matter whether the URL is DNS Name or via IP Address.

Troubleshooting done
-      Added DNS Name to local host file on PC (which made the ISO upload work)
-      Reinstalled VMWare Client Integration Plugin v6.2 , v6.0 and v5.6 after uninstalling, reinstalling and rebooting a number of times.
-      Added Firewall Exclusions on Local PC for all profiles (Domain, Private and Public)
-      Installed the Valid Certificate for FQDN in Automatically Selected Store and the Trusted Root Certificate Store.
-      Tried Troubleshooting described on various VMWare Website and Forums – some were unclear.
-      VMWare …

Hello all,

My office is having a planned power outage and will need to shut down our 8 year old Dell EqualLogic PS6110 and start up after outage.
The SAN is connected to 3 ESXI hosts with total of 44 VMs.

I am wondering if anyone has a SOP on SAN shutdown and start-up process.
From what I know, the sequence goes like all VMs > ESXI hosts > SAN array > power off SAN.

Does this sound right? Am I missing any steps?

I am also curious about the start up process for the SAN array. Do I just power on SAN then use DB9 console to connect to array and start it?

Thanks!

Question in regards to hotadd for CPU
I set the settings for memory\cpu for HotAdd on one vm but when I go into edit the settings on that VM now,  I am only able to change the CPU virtual sockets but not the number of cores per socket, that is still greyed out.
Is this normal or is there some setting I am missing?

I have a vm that is stuck in limbo and we want to delete it but the options for powering it off and such are all greyed out.
How can I delete this vm since we cannot access any of the power options via the vctr?

VM won't boot on esxi 6.0 host. I uploaded the installation media iso to run a repair and the command prompt is showing me it found no Operating Systems when running the bootrec /rebuildbcd command.

I aslo tried SFC.EXE /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows      ...which said corruption was detected?

We converted this vm from a 6.5 esxi host using vmconverter.

We don't have the vm it was originally converted from.
