VMware is virtual machine software that provides a virtualized set of hardware (a video adapter, a network adapter, and hard disk adapters) to the guest operating system. VMware virtual machines become highly portable between computers, because every host looks nearly identical to the guest. In practice, a system administrator can pause operations on a virtual machine guest, move or copy that guest to another physical computer, and there resume execution exactly at the point of suspension. VMware's enterprise software hypervisors for servers, VMware ESX and VMware ESXi are bare-metal embedded Hypervisors that run directly on server hardware without requiring an additional underlying operating system.

How can I install Windows Server on a machine running ESXi 6.7? I have the software on a USB drive but I cannot boot from that drive. The server does not have a CD-ROM drive and I cannot put the ISO file on the datastore since that's on the hard drive

Thanks

We currently have a host with VMware ESXi, 5.0.0, 469512

I am attempting to upgrade to VMware ESXi 6.7 via SHH.  I tried one method of installing via SHH having it download from VMware's site as well as trying to upgrade from an offline installer on the datastore.  Both attempts give me the same error:

~ # esxcli software vib update -d /vmfs/volumes/datastore/ISO-IMAGES/VMware-ESXi-6.7.0-8169922-depot.zip

 [VibFormatError]
 VIB 'esx-base-6.7.0-0.0.8169922' has invalid payload:
Please refer to the log file for more details.

Logs are not showing anything helpful.  Any ideas?

I have a question on VMware HCI kit and vSAN ROBO. I hope someone will shed light on this.
I know vSAN ROBO is for multiple sites if we want to deploy less than 25 VMS.
If we have only one remote site then can we deploy vSAN with HCI? kit instead of spending too much money?

Hi,

I would like to know how to do a network setting on VMWare Workstation.

Conditions:
■Windows 10 Pro (64bit)
■VMWare Workstation 15 Pro (Ver 15.5.1)
■Added 2 NIC cards on the PC (ST1000SPEX2L)
■Installed "Realtek - Ethernet Diagnostic Utility"
■Two Linux Virtual machines are on VMWARE Workstation

Here are what I would like to do:
*Please refer to the attachment file.
1)  Each Linux machine needs to connect with "Specialized Monitor"s using PC NIC 2 or 3.
2) There two monitors need to connect to "Central Server" through internet access using PC NIC1 in order to download "program".l
3) There is a network setting of the Linux machine:  two Ethernet Network Card (for global and private address)

I am not sure how to do the setting:
1) "Network adapter" setting on Virtual machine.
Should I config using Bridge with physical network connectivity. Is so, which of the "VMnet" number should I use?
How about another virtual machine setting? what is the difference? what is  "VMnet" number?

2) "Virtual Network Editor" setting:
How I should configure on here? VMWare-Workstation---2-VM-connecting.pdfLinux Network card setting       ex.  VMnet 0 and VMnet 1 are configured as Bridge and connecting to PC NIC 2 and 3...

3)  "Realtek - Ethernet Diagnostic Utility"
I assigned VLAN ID 2 as PC NIC2 and VLAN ID as PC NIC3 for now.

I appreciate it if you can tell me the step by step instruction. If you have the VMWare Workstation screenshots, that will be helpful.

Hi,

Has anyone gotten the Cloudera Hadoop quickstart VM to run in ESXi 6.5 or above?  I've tried to clone it using VMware Workstation to an ESXi 6.5-6.7 hardware range but the upload fails.  Looks like the disk formats aren't compatible.

Running one host on 6.5 and two others on 6.7.

Thanks!

Are ESXi 6.5 hosts are setup as follows: 1x fiber card with 2 ports. All guest and NFS storage traffic goes over these to interfaces. I need to setup a new VMkernal adapter for iSCSI traffic. I have already created the software iscsi adapter and vmkernal port group. When I try and bind the vmk to the adapter, it does not list any available vmkernel interfaces

The only way I was able to get this to work on to remove a pNIC from the current vswitch0 and setup the vmk on a new switch with only 1 pNIC

Hi EE,

Can anyone provide me with PowerCLI scripts that obtain the IOPS of Vmware image specific to drive letters over a period of time?

We are using ESXi 6.5u2.

Any assistance is welcome.

Thank you.

We have 3 VMware servers to be migrated to 3 new 2019 VMware Servers.

What are the best practices and easier methods to do the migration?

My boss said that SEPM migration is very easy inside the Symantec website, i have not found the documentation yet.

File server migration - i keep seeing windows admin centre, my customer servers are on-prem, anyone knows of a website with a step by step guide on how to do the migration of file server and remote desktop server?

When I log in to the VCSA I'm now getting a popup window asking to "Please start the VMware Cip message Proxy Service".  I installed their enhanced authentication plugin a little while ago.

Looking at the services available, the only ones I see are:
  1. VMware Alias Manager and Ticket service
  2. VMware CAF AMQP Communication Service
  3. VMware CAF Management Agent Service
  4. VMware Snapshot Provider
  5. VMware Tools

Only #1 and #5 are running.   To make sure something hadn't tanked I reinstalled the authentication plugin.  No change.  I'm signing on to the VCSA (6.7) with Firefox.  I see no plugins from VMware in the list within Firefox.  ?

Good morning,

I created a new VCSA from the latest iso available from Vmware.  That went well, then tried to add a test host I am working with.   Couldn't add it: password issue.
Used the same password to log in to the physical console multiple times, going back and forth.  Changed it to a different one, no difference.  Rebooted the host.  No difference.  Same issue with putty and WinSCP.

Could it have locked out the root account??

VCSA is on 6.7, host is at 6.0.

Hi,

What type of ISO images can be imported into the Update Manager?  I'm trying to import a 6.5 ESXi iso image (VMware-VIM-all-6.5.0-5973321.iso and VMware-VMvisor-Installer-6.5.0.update01-5969303.x86_64.iso) and both were rejected as incompatible.

Here is our current setup which is not ideal and built long before I started.

8 ESXi 6.5 hosts
1x 2 port fiber
1x 1GB management port

Right now all Vm guest and NFS traffic are on one vswitch and use the same physical interfaces. Here is my question / problem. We have a new iSCSI SAN. I have created a software iscsi interface but cannot bind any pNIC's because they are all in use. Is my only option to have the iSCSI traffic use the same vswitch and vlan as well?

I am setting up a V-sphere 6.7 host on Hyper-V created VM and when I try to power on the VM I get an error stating the VM cannot power on because Hypervisor is not running.  I have enabled the physical BIOS on my local machine to support virtualization.

Every powered on item (hosts, clusters and VMs) has either a red or orange warning. I saw on Reddit that this was due to the ImageBuilder service not running. I looked and it was not running. Even after starting the service, the warnings remain.

Experts out there, as i understand, we can only  implement a fault tolerance VMware system  with shared storage or vsan.
This can be expensive for a small network with five VMs.
Is there any other way in which i can implement a  fault tolerance system?

I want to install ESXi 6.5 on a new server and build 3 guests on that host, to purchase a license is very expensive.
How limited am I if I just download the free license?
Where can I download it from and can I use it for ever?
Do I need to register?
How do I install it?

I know I asked several questions but I would appreciate your help

Thanks!

WinPE on Thin Client.

I have seen an environment that use Wyse thin CLient device for users, in the back end it is Vmware View.
If I understand the Wyse device will have WinPE  to boot from and search for a VM in Vmware view that it will connect to and will be presented to end user.
Now if WinPE on the device is Windows 7 , and the VMs in Vmware view are Windows 10, would that be able to work ?

Thank you.
