VMware is virtual machine software that provides a virtualized set of hardware (a video adapter, a network adapter, and hard disk adapters) to the guest operating system. VMware virtual machines become highly portable between computers, because every host looks nearly identical to the guest. In practice, a system administrator can pause operations on a virtual machine guest, move or copy that guest to another physical computer, and there resume execution exactly at the point of suspension. VMware's enterprise software hypervisors for servers, VMware ESX and VMware ESXi are bare-metal embedded Hypervisors that run directly on server hardware without requiring an additional underlying operating system.

Hello, I have two ESXi hosts that are each running a VM. I am accessing the hosts using the vSphere Client 5.5.0. These VMs are able to reach other nodes on the network, but they are not able to talk to each other. Would someone please help me to configure the networking, so these VMs can communicate with each other?

Few Queries Regarding  Physical Memory Configuration on Virtual infra running with  vSphere 6.7

Is it justified to use  Maximum allowed Physical  Memory on any Hardware Like We have Dell M630 running with 512 GB RAM while it can be enhanced Up to 1.5TB (24 DIMM slots): 4GB/8GB/16GB/32GB/64GB DDR4 up to 2400MT/s

What should be best practice to follow here by increasing resources Like RAM/CPU or if to add more Servers  with std configuration ?

What if We need to extract Slot wise memory Detail ?

When Using smbiosDump  running individually on Esxi using SSH but not to get the same from multiple Esxi?

Tried to setup some function using script given below..

https://psvmware.wordpress.com/tag/powercli-check-memory-dimms-for-esxi/

But when trying to run giving error like...
New-CimSession : The connection to the specified remote host was refused. Verify that the WS-Management service is
running on the remote host and configured to listen for requests on the correct port and HTTP URL

Need to fetch my existing /memory config /slot wise and best pretcie to use the Server with best available performance

Tried to locate the Hardware and Health tab form VC/Host Webclient [HTML5]..seems it is depreciated now in 6.7?

Please help to locate the required detail from multiple Host/Physical Boxes

We are testing VMware 9.8 and have  DEM set to run as a GP extension.  We are testing folder redirection right now which is working perfectly, but have noticed that map drives created by users are not coming back at next login.

Thoughts?

I removed from inventory two ESXi 6.7 hosts that I did a clean rebuild on from ISO. Same one we've been using for all our other sites. Only this time, the vCenter kicks up an error trying to add them. I confirmed DNS, time and domain name are all good to go.

A general system error occurred. SSL Exception: The remote host certificate has has these problems. Unable to get local issuer certificate.

It seems as this would be a vCenter issue as these are clean rebuilds.

Thanks in advance

Deploy Many VMs from Template.

If we have a VM template and we need to deploy many VMs from that Template, is there a way to do that automatically instead of  manually repeating deploy from template many times.?

Thank you

We use VMware ESXi  host with Windows-10 pro Virtual mchines running on this
Users have access to the Virtual Windows-10 set by RDP connection

One problem,  some user have hardware attached to their own pc (also  WIndows-10) by either Real Rs232 comports
or by using Startech a USB to RS232 DB9 Serial Adapter  creating a COMx  port

Communication with serial devices like Barcode scanners or  Weight-scale go fine on the USB to RS232 DB9 Serial Adapter ports

But!   software running on the Vmware machine has no access to these ports

Thus, looking for solution how to make it possible to ""see""  those ports on a Vmware station

Port Group used for High Availability.

per this link:
https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/6.5/com.vmware.vsphere.avail.doc/GUID-B1906BCD-E538-4FFF-AAE9-5403FE253F38.html

On ESXi hosts in the cluster, vSphere HA communications, by default, travel over VMkernel networks. With an ESXi host, if you want to use a network other than the one vCenter Server uses to communicate with the host for vSphere HA, you must explicitly enable the Management traffic check box.

Not sure which VMkernel Network they are referring to. I thought by default HA traffic flows with Management Traffic (it uses the same Vmkernel port).

Any help ?

Heartbeat Datastore list Empty:

I have one shared datastore. In Vsphere HA, if I click on Heartbeat Datastore I see by default this option selected :
"Use datastores from the specified list and complement automatically if needed"

I am not sure why the above option is by default though it makes sense to me that the option below should be by default:
"Automatically selected datastores accessible from the Hosts"

I also do not see the Shared Datastore listed.

Any help ?

Backup Resource Pools

The only place where I see Resource Pool can be backed up is when you Try to Disable DRS.
I wonder if there is another way to backup the Resource Pool without disabling DRS ?

Remove Snapshot with Command line:

I am trying to remove snapshot using the command lines below.  Retrieving the VMID then Removing snapshots related to that VMID:

 vim-cmd vmsvc/getallvms
Vmid Name File Guest OS Version Annotation
50 VM1 [Shared-Datastore] VM1/VM1.vmx otherGuest vmx-14

[root@unknown000c290ed7cb:/vmfs/volumes/5e52777e-3a92a27c-79e3-000c29b2122f/VM1] vim-cmd vmsvc/snapshot.removeall 50
Remove All Snapshots:
[root@unknown000c290ed7cb:/vmfs/volumes/5e52777e-3a92a27c-79e3-000c29b2122f/VM1]

however when I run the ls -lha command I still see the snapshot there:
[code]

-rw------- 1 root root 300 Feb 28 10:19 VM1-000001.vmdk

in the snapshot manager there is no Snapshot showing.

Level of Application of Shares /Reservation

I know that Shares and Reservation can be applied at the individual VMs level , Resource Pools Level.
I am not sure if it can be at the Cluster level or other levels.

Any idea ?

Vmware Reservation vs Shares

If I understand when you have for instance 2 VMs :

VM1 = Memory Reservation : 3 GB ,  CPU : 1GHZ
VM2= Memory Reservation : 4 GB ,   CPU:  2GHZ

Now whatever Share you allocate to VM1 or VM2, it is not going to make any difference , since VM1 and VM2 will have Memory and CPU guaranteed as allocated above.

So how does the Share work in comparison to Reservation ?

ESX Host Reclaiming of Resources.

I would like to know at  which stage  of Resources reduction that ESX starts reclaiming resources...
I have read about the ESX techniques to work around resources need such as  : Baloon driver, TPS, Swapping,Memory compression

so When does ESX start using those techniques , before it decides to vmotion some VMs to another ESX host ?

Thanks

Hi,

i got 2 vpshere hosts. - running esxi 6.5.0 in HP Proliant servers.
host 1 running - 5 vm
host 2 running - 5 vm
both hosts are in HA mode.
so when host1 goes down, all 10 vm starts to run on host2 .  - this part is working good as expected.

but again when host1 comes up- the vm are not falling back again to host 1 from host2 .. -- how do i make it to work ? ? ? currently i had to manually move vm from host2 to host1.

VMEM file.

A VMEM file is a backup of the virtual machine’s paging file. It will only appear if the virtual machine is running, or if it has crashed.

I have linux VM running, but I do not see the VMEM file. is this just for Windows VMs ?
