Web Applications

Web applications are systems that run in browsers that perform functions normally associated with other client-based programs. One of the most commonly used web applications is email; instead of downloading individual emails to a local machine, the data is shown through a website. Other examples of web applications are collaborative systems like a wiki or an online game.

On a page on my website, I have have 5 mini-players side by side, each of which played a different promotional announcement for features on the site that changed weekly. I had been using Dewplayer, as it was very easy to use, just the right size and worked well. All I had to do was to change the mp3 file for each player and that was that.

Now, with Flash getting the axe bit by bit, I need to find another such player

I thought this would be no big deal, but I haven't found anything yet that I like.

So I'm asking you experts for some help and suggestions on this, preferably players that you know first-hand and are 100% non-Flash powered.
we use a 3rd party SaaS provider for our HR system, and as part of the application there is a so-called self service module which allows employees to login to the system and view their payslips, which expose personal and sensitive information. Access can be achieved from any location, e.g. any Internet connection, no restrictions specific to the companies network etc. At present access is based on single-factor authentication (basic username & password) and a review of the costs associated with making the system require 2-factor authentication for access is beyond current budget. Are there any compensating controls/security techniques you can think of that minimise the need for 2-factor authentication for such a system that we can look at which may be more practical with budgets in mind. At present I am not sure what technology stack the application is based upon if that has any relevance but that is perhaps something we can review.
are there any useful tools/techniques that could be utilised to determine if a website has been updated (content etc) in say the past 3 months or so, without being the admin of the site itself?
I like to know is there any dll for edit image for website. purpose is to edit image & add text & mark circles on image before save.
We are about to purchase 50 pcs. 40 will be placed in store offices where most of the usage is basic functions accessing our web applications. The PCs that I'm about to purchase comes with Windows 10 Pro. Is there a strong reason to consider Windows 10 Enterprise? Some of the current computers in our stores have Enterprise and some have Pro. The remote systems are connect via WAN.
Can anyone give me an idea what would it take to develop an app (IoS, Android) for a small liquor store deli?  Owner wants to put an app for pre-ordering and deliveries.  I think its too much tho.
Any other ideas?  Thanks!!
I have several office 365 admin accounts that I work on.  is there a way or program that would cleanly log me off and log me onto another account?  the problem I face is that I have to always type in the information all the time and the browser holds the on to the previous profile at times.  I just want to login faster to different accounts.
Within the same major version of Weblogic ie  12.1.x vs 12.2.x,
are the hardenings the same?   Have seen hardening docs from
Oracle for 11.x.y & 12.1.x  but I can't locate a doc that's for 12.2.x
so can I assume the hardening options for 12.1.x (specifically we
are on 12.1.3 & going to move to 12.2.x) are the same as for
We have ran a few vulnerability scanners over a few of our web apps, and one of the 'low risk' errors it flags is password auto-complete is enabled.

I went to the login page for the said system, which has an initial login page where users need to supply username & password combination, and 'viewed source' - which does show a line in the HTML of:

<p><label for="httpd_password">Password</label> <input name="httpd_password" type="password"></p>

This was the extract from the vulnerability assessment report. My question is, how big of a risk is this? I am not fully confident it does auto-complete anything, as if I log out the system aclose the browser and re-try access I am back to the login page where I need to enter my credentials again. Nothing has been auto completed for me?  Is something superseding this so called vulnerability to make it less of a problem, henc the low risk scoring - or is this something to be worried about? I haven't tried every browser to see how it behaves. Is it good practice to turn this off on any web app?
Can you help, and how can I register to the below site?

Hi experts,
First of all, I'm not a web developer.
I have a web-host account, a SQL database and a domain name. I need to do the following Max by tomorrow :)
- I need a very simple form consists of 4 or 5 fields to insert data.
- A save button to save data in database.
Or any other method to do the same through my webpage.

Thanks in advance,
Daniel Mina
We have a NetCore web application and we are looking for an SDK or REST API that will parse data in PDF files.
If we upload a PDF file with specific fields we need for the PDF Parser to extract the data in those fields and arrange it into XML or JSON so that we can then use it any way we want.

I found a couple software companies that have this type of PDF Parser but I want to do more research on this. Any recommendations?  Do you have any experience with the recommended software?
In a Web application:

I need to take a screenshot of a chart that has so many columns that it flows off the right hand side of the screen. I reduce the Chrome zoom to 67% but then, the individual cells become so small that it would be hard for the reader to understand it.

Would it be considered a proper practice to split the table into two lines, with some clear indication that the 2nd screenshot is merely a continuation of the first?

Web API works with localhost, but not using the machine name.  Even when remoted to the server,  and running the URL on a launched browser, I get a 500 Server error.
Something, somewhere has changed, but I don't see what nor where.

Any clues on this would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for a plugin that will allow me to scan a PDF file, or grab it from my computer and use it to 'read' some fields in the PDF and save those values into our SQL database.
Our web application is developed in NetCore. and our DB is SQL.

The idea is to scan the PDF (One page), 'upload it' to our web application, and during this upload read the 10 fields included in the PDF and allow the user to save the values of each field into our database without having to type them.

This may be more a matter of taste rather than a technical question:

I have a web app that I'm going to be selling Membership access to. I'd like to use Shopify as the Merchant Account/Gateway in which I will need to purchase and configure two plugins:

1. A Recurring Subscription plug-in that will allow me to charge Customer's 30 days out from when they subscribed and keep that payment recurring for a given duration
2. An "Affiliate" plug-in as I will be paying a Sales Team a portion of the initial cost from the Customers.

I realize this is a big ask and I'm fairly new to Shopify, so please use laymen's terms with your suggestions. The app is written in Node.JS/React so I suspect that integration won't be too difficult for the Devs.

Thanks for your assistance.
We have a button in our web application that is disabled under certain conditions. It's dark purple if you are allowed to disable this record by clicking the goggle; light/faint purple if you are not allowed to disable this record.

Grayed out buttton?
Is it acceptable to refer to the 2nd instance as being "grayed out"? event though the color is not gray? Or, should I just say "faint purple" or "light purple".

My work 2 laptops desktop backgrounds keeps randomly turning black.  It's hurting my eyes b/c it flashes. HP says it happens when security or legal remotes in, but I checked on that and that's not happening.  I have Stardock Fences installed, too as my icon management app.  This is on Win 10 and it's up to date.
thank you,
Full disclosure: not a developer, never worked with any of this before. This seemed like a very straightforward process that isn't working for some reason.

To create an app that points to a website that will run in kiosk mode. This should be a relatively simple undertaking. You name the app, plug in the url in the homepage section, (our is https://ffc-ic.ffc8.org/campus/OLRLoginKiosk/ffc) configure any settings for navigation, then select to save as kiosk.

While testing the app by opening the more tools-->extensions-->turn on developer mode-->load unpacked, however, I get errors. Having no idea where to even start on this (isn't it just supposed to be redirecting to a website?) I'm asking for assistance to determine where the errors could possibly be coming from.
