Web-Based CMS

A web-based content management system (CMS) provides website authoring, collaboration, and administration tools that enables users with little knowledge or experience to create and manage website content. Most CMS systems use a content repository or a database to store page content, metadata, and other information assets, and a presentation component that displays the content to website visitors.

when you use a 3rd party to host your website, where does the responsibility typically split in terms of the technology stack on who has to apply patches to all the relevant components of the web stack? e.g. do they typically patch your CMS and any underlying databases, or only lower levels of the stack?

I am trying to quantify risks with the current 'management' and roles & resp[responsibilities of our websites 'content management system' (concrete5). I have never administered a content management system for a website before, but my overall understanding on permissions is there is an admin level role which allows overall control, and then there are author level roles, which allow a number of users to edit content on specific pages or areas of the site. My concern, from a contingency perspective, is we only have 1 officer with admin permissions on the CMS, and the others are only author level roles. The concern being if the 1 current admin was unavailable for example ill health for a few months, what would grind to a halt in terms of the overall CMS management?

Back to the 'I have never administered a content management system for a website before' - if you are a CMS admin, what activities/maintenance/monitoring requires admin level permissions in a solution, or put another way, if nobody logged in as an admin for numerous weeks, what could the knock on effect be? I was also hoping to establish some standard maintenance checklists that the CMS admin has to perform, so if they were unavailable another officer could pick up their duties and would have an easy 'how to guide' on which to follow. Ideally supplemented with formal training.

Hello Experts - I am planning to replace our web filtering service next year and wanted to get some ideas and opinions on what works for you.  We're currently using Websense which I've never been a big fan of.  I'd like a solution that does a good job of clearly reporting web activity that can be easily understood by non-technical managers and helps prevent users from accessing sites that they shouldn't, preferably with an easy to use interface.  Please let me know what you think, thanks!

I am migrating a Magento 1 module to be used on the Magento 2 platform.  All of the code has been migrated and produces the expected results but in Magento's technical review process it fails the varnish check.Capture.PNGMy initial research into the issue shows that you should specify cachable=false on your block elements or by setting the _isScopePrivate property in your defined Block PHP file.  The only problem is that I do not have any block elements.

I have created one to try and combat this issue but the module does not require any block elements.  The module works by appending the quote results to a rateResultFactory which is then displayed on the Checkout screen.

I have also tried to use the method described here to try and retrieve any dynamic data without requiring the cacheable flag.

Any help would be tremendously appreciated.

I've just had some major "internal" work done on my website (built with FrontPage), and as a result, will need to replace some code on over 100 individual pages.  My freelance coder said that it just might be time for me to consider a Content Management System. I looked at some CMS sites, and I'm starting to think he's right.

My website is www.radiogeorge.com

My coder has suggested I look at:

    WordPress  -- https://wordpress.org/
    Joomla - https://www.joomla.org/
    Drupal - https://www.drupal.org/

saying that the best candidate might come from this short list, considering the structure of the site.

FrontPage has given me familiarity with  tweaking pages to the extent that they look O.K. and are easy to use, but beyond that, if I am going to go with a CMS, I would like to go with one that is very easy to use, since it looks like I'll be rebuilding the while enchilada.

So, experts, I'm asking you to scope things out and give me your recommendations before I get involved with learning and implementing a whole new bunch of tools to get the job done. Key thing to keep in mind: while I'm not a rank beginner in messing around with web pages, I am far from being up on the latest tools, so simple is best. I am not ruling out paying for a CMS tool, if it is indeed easy to use.

Thanks!

Hello, I  have a Wordpress theme, on this theme I would like to reorder the some front page Widgets.  For a visual representation of the Widgets please see Webpage.jpg.  I would like to swap A with B.

The code below shows my home-template.php (I have also attached this page).

I have numbered the Hooks from 1 - 6.  I would like to reorder number 4 with number 6.   I can reorder all of the Hooks using priority, apart from number 4 (why is this?).
* Template Name: Home Page
*/
do_action( 'genesis_home' );
//* Force full-width-content layout setting
add_filter( 'genesis_pre_get_option_site_layout', '__genesis_return_full_width_content' );

**// Execute Home Top - Slider image 1**

add_action( 'genesis_after_header', 'wsm_home_top');
function wsm_home_top() {
	genesis_widget_area( 'slider', array( 'before' => '<div class="home-slider widget-area">', 'after' => '</div>') );
}

**// Execute Home Top - Additional News Banner 2**

add_action( 'genesis_after_header', 'wsm_home_featured', 15 );
function wsm_home_featured() {
	genesis_widget_area( 'home-top-featured', array( 'before' => '<div class="home-top-featured widget-area"><div class="wrap">', 'after' => '</div></div>') );
}

**// Remove the standard loop 3**
remove_action( 'genesis_loop', 'genesis_do_loop' );

**// Execute Home Mid Section - Three layer widget section 4**

add_action( 'genesis_loop', 'wsm_home_loop_helper' );
function wsm_home_loop_helper() {
	echo'<div class="home-mid widget-area">';

I have a customer who wants to convert her joomla site to wordpress and has asked to find out how much it would cost to do so. I have no idea at all so I can't setup a Gigs request since I have no budget idea in mind. As such my question is two-fold: 1) can those plugins for wordpress convert a joomla site to wordpress (and how well does it work)? 2) how would I go about determining how much a conversion would cost without using a conversion plugin? She does not want me to share her website URL yet. I know that would be helpful but at this point, I can't go against her wishes. Thanks!

I'm looking to understand the Joomla account activation string. It ends with 'menuid' and 'Itemid' numbers. But I've played with these, and they don't seem to do anything. I was hoping that changing these would enable me to land the activating user on whatever page I wanted, but this doesn't seem to be the case.

Here's an example:

https://site.com/component/users/?task=registration.activate&token=d0f0b518c5597e26c4bba17cf5fce984&menuid=319&Itemid=256

What is the purpose of the 'menuid' and 'Itemid' numbers in the Joomla activation link query string?

Thanks,
Jonathan

I'm interested in creating a Joomla extension for sending out user account activation emails. I need to know about the activation token.

The activation token appears to be hex code. The token generated when I registered my test account was 1c99b9e50f765fe8e25e2d6f8d328e78

Where does this code come from? Is it saved anywhere to the database, and/or is it created based upon info submitted by the user - or something else?

I need to know this so that I can generate it myself.

Thanks for any help!

Regards,
Jon

Windows Folders are so archaic. I want to use a system of tagging, metadata to keep up with my files and folder contents. (I know this can be done on files). The goal is to quickly be able to find files and folders (or rather tagged items or groups) using advanced type search.  I'm talking about Metadata and Tagging instead of the old school folders in folders in folders and file names with specific naming conventions.  I do this all the time in Enterprise CMS systems, but I'm looking to do it locally for my own sanity on my computer.  I'm ok if the folder structure needs to stay for now but ultimately once it's created, I want to find it again without drilling down.  Has anyone seen a solution for the PC that allows for this?

Hi All,

I inherited a Joomla 1.5 site.  Within the site, we have a training section and menu is broken.
Joomla broken menu screenshot.

Everything else on the site seems to work.  All the other menus work fine in the other sections.  I tried clearing out the cache and creating a new menu module for the site and that did not work.

Thank you for all of your help in advance

Hi

I have a friend who is asking for a client :) about their Magento site.  They currently are using Magento 1.14.3.4  Enterprise.

They have a few questions.

1)  Is 1.14.3.4 the most current version of Magento Enterprise?
2)  When is the "end of life"for this version of Magento Enterprise.
3)  Is Magento 2 what they will need to upgrade to?   Or are there other Magento Enterprise options?

Thanks!

If you Google something I notice that some websites are just random blogs or options of a product or something. I notice that some not all are made by WordPress or another CMS.

My question is do people pay to just give an option or blog about something fake? I know that for a free WordPress site they include "wordpress" in the link. WordPress' I've seen don't have this watermark.

Would like to know how this works.

Hello,

I would like to change my layered navigation so users can only selected 1 item per drop down.

as a bonus, I would like it to behave like old style ajax menus
I have 4 different drop down menus in my layered navigation and they are all attributes. Ideally, the first drop down would cause the second drop down to populate, the second -> populate third drop down, the third -> populate fourth drop down. Is it possible to modify my layered navigation to behave this way? What files and functions could i modify to accomplish this?

I'm doing a B2B site where customers frequently go in and out of 'on hold', and the doddery old accounts staff are not really up to clearing the cache, is there a quick way to update an attribute and clear the cache  only for that attribute change in one go?

Hello,

i am trying to use ZoZo tabs within a block in Drupal 7. It states I needed to upload these files to my site which i done:

    ├── css/
    │   └── zozo.tabs.min.css
    ├── img/
    │   ├── z-tabs-icons.png (Mobile)
    │   └── loading-image.gif (AJAX)
    └── js/
        ├── jquery.min.js
        └── zozo.tabs.min.js

Then add the following to the head of the html which i have added to the html.tpl.php in my sites/all/theme/stig/templates folder since that is the theme I am using.
<link href="/css/zozo.tabs.min.css" rel="stylesheet">
<script src="/js/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="/js/zozo.tabs.min.js"></script>

then add the following to before the </body>:

<script>
jQuery(document).ready(function ($) {
    $("#tabbed-nav").zozoTabs({
        theme: "silver",
        animation: {
            duration: 800,
            effects: "slideH"
        }
    })
});
</script>

I have added everything and it show up on the page when i view the source code and everything is linked. the div id is unique. Is there something I missing about drupal that is preventing this? Should I had the script using a different way?
