Web-Based CMS

A web-based content management system (CMS) provides website authoring, collaboration, and administration tools that enables users with little knowledge or experience to create and manage website content. Most CMS systems use a content repository or a database to store page content, metadata, and other information assets, and a presentation component that displays the content to website visitors.

Hello Experts - I am planning to replace our web filtering service next year and wanted to get some ideas and opinions on what works for you.  We're currently using Websense which I've never been a big fan of.  I'd like a solution that does a good job of clearly reporting web activity that can be easily understood by non-technical managers and helps prevent users from accessing sites that they shouldn't, preferably with an easy to use interface.  Please let me know what you think, thanks!

I've just had some major "internal" work done on my website (built with FrontPage), and as a result, will need to replace some code on over 100 individual pages.  My freelance coder said that it just might be time for me to consider a Content Management System. I looked at some CMS sites, and I'm starting to think he's right.

My website is www.radiogeorge.com

My coder has suggested I look at:

    WordPress  -- https://wordpress.org/
    Joomla - https://www.joomla.org/
    Drupal - https://www.drupal.org/

saying that the best candidate might come from this short list, considering the structure of the site.

FrontPage has given me familiarity with  tweaking pages to the extent that they look O.K. and are easy to use, but beyond that, if I am going to go with a CMS, I would like to go with one that is very easy to use, since it looks like I'll be rebuilding the while enchilada.

So, experts, I'm asking you to scope things out and give me your recommendations before I get involved with learning and implementing a whole new bunch of tools to get the job done. Key thing to keep in mind: while I'm not a rank beginner in messing around with web pages, I am far from being up on the latest tools, so simple is best. I am not ruling out paying for a CMS tool, if it is indeed easy to use.

Thanks!

I have a customer who wants to convert her joomla site to wordpress and has asked to find out how much it would cost to do so. I have no idea at all so I can't setup a Gigs request since I have no budget idea in mind. As such my question is two-fold: 1) can those plugins for wordpress convert a joomla site to wordpress (and how well does it work)? 2) how would I go about determining how much a conversion would cost without using a conversion plugin? She does not want me to share her website URL yet. I know that would be helpful but at this point, I can't go against her wishes. Thanks!

I'm looking to understand the Joomla account activation string. It ends with 'menuid' and 'Itemid' numbers. But I've played with these, and they don't seem to do anything. I was hoping that changing these would enable me to land the activating user on whatever page I wanted, but this doesn't seem to be the case.

Here's an example:

https://site.com/component/users/?task=registration.activate&token=d0f0b518c5597e26c4bba17cf5fce984&menuid=319&Itemid=256

Open in new window

What is the purpose of the 'menuid' and 'Itemid' numbers in the Joomla activation link query string?

Thanks,
Jonathan

I'm interested in creating a Joomla extension for sending out user account activation emails. I need to know about the activation token.

The activation token appears to be hex code. The token generated when I registered my test account was 1c99b9e50f765fe8e25e2d6f8d328e78

Where does this code come from? Is it saved anywhere to the database, and/or is it created based upon info submitted by the user - or something else?

I need to know this so that I can generate it myself.

Thanks for any help!

Regards,
Jon

Windows Folders are so archaic. I want to use a system of tagging, metadata to keep up with my files and folder contents. (I know this can be done on files). The goal is to quickly be able to find files and folders (or rather tagged items or groups) using advanced type search.  I'm talking about Metadata and Tagging instead of the old school folders in folders in folders and file names with specific naming conventions.  I do this all the time in Enterprise CMS systems, but I'm looking to do it locally for my own sanity on my computer.  I'm ok if the folder structure needs to stay for now but ultimately once it's created, I want to find it again without drilling down.  Has anyone seen a solution for the PC that allows for this?

Hi,

as an service company we need to let our customers sign new contracts every week. for the moment those contracts are paper based.

is there a good way to put this contract online? i mean that the customer can read this online and then sign the contract digitally?

so we can email the contract out and let the customer sign online.

Hi

I have a friend who is asking for a client :) about their Magento site.  They currently are using Magento 1.14.3.4  Enterprise.

They have a few questions.

1)  Is 1.14.3.4 the most current version of Magento Enterprise?
2)  When is the "end of life"for this version of Magento Enterprise.
3)  Is Magento 2 what they will need to upgrade to?   Or are there other Magento Enterprise options?

Thanks!

If you Google something I notice that some websites are just random blogs or options of a product or something. I notice that some not all are made by WordPress or another CMS.

My question is do people pay to just give an option or blog about something fake? I know that for a free WordPress site they include "wordpress" in the link. WordPress' I've seen don't have this watermark.

Would like to know how this works.

I'm doing a B2B site where customers frequently go in and out of 'on hold', and the doddery old accounts staff are not really up to clearing the cache, is there a quick way to update an attribute and clear the cache  only for that attribute change in one go?

Hello,

i am trying to use ZoZo tabs within a block in Drupal 7. It states I needed to upload these files to my site which i done:

    ├── css/
    │   └── zozo.tabs.min.css
    ├── img/
    │   ├── z-tabs-icons.png (Mobile)
    │   └── loading-image.gif (AJAX)
    └── js/
        ├── jquery.min.js
        └── zozo.tabs.min.js

Then add the following to the head of the html which i have added to the html.tpl.php in my sites/all/theme/stig/templates folder since that is the theme I am using.
<link href="/css/zozo.tabs.min.css" rel="stylesheet">
<script src="/js/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="/js/zozo.tabs.min.js"></script>

then add the following to before the </body>:

<script>
jQuery(document).ready(function ($) {
    $("#tabbed-nav").zozoTabs({
        theme: "silver",
        animation: {
            duration: 800,
            effects: "slideH"
        }
    })
});
</script>

I have added everything and it show up on the page when i view the source code and everything is linked. the div id is unique. Is there something I missing about drupal that is preventing this? Should I had the script using a different way?

Goal is not final answer. Keywords are great. If I increase my vocabulary then I appear smarter.

I can not test process on my own because website has changed
I can not make a test purchase on my own
and make screenshots of every page.
No contract. I do not know the entire scope of the project.
what was on the site in a previous iteration?

going through the pages of information of an e-commerce website purchase one year ago (website changed)

I am resolving a contract dispute because both parties are not really sure what is agreed to

this is a custom content management system where I do not have access to code

my role is to ask the other side for their programmer to produce screenshots of every page clicked to make a purchase

while producing this data may be difficult to the other side;
they cant just go on archive.org because website is dynamic and https
I would like to use a few words as possible to make this difficult suggest seem regular

for example;
show me the "wire frames" of the ecommerce process 1 year ago.

I wish an open-source web cms-site to publish my portfolio (architecture). The sistem shall have configurable fields, and ideally the ability to set-up multi-multi relationships. I don't need social - users, etcetera, only catalog but the way I want. Html5+css3 output.
I would then like to access the same database with libreoffice to easilly retrive different projects for different curricula/portfolio (i.e. only hotels, or only over a certain budget) and format the information in different ways (information in tables, or in forms...).
I don't want to keep both a cv and a website repeating allways the same informations.
I have a small cms experience (old Modx), I was looking at Processwire and Boltcms, but could'nt find any based on firebird as libreoffice does. Wich would be a good solution?
Thank you

I just read a article this morning from Wordfence which seems to confirm a suspicion I had. Wordfence reports that hackers are targeting Wordpress sites. However my question is this, is it possible that depending on the theme and the plugins I use that my sites can be targeted? I have created two brand new Wordpress sites in the last month. Both sites have previously been up and running over two years or more and during that time none of my reports show any attempts to hack or access my sites. However since switching to Wordpress I have had to add Loginizer and Wordfence to my sites to protect them. The sites are using two different free themes and the one is getting attention from hackers in Russia and Germany (mostly) while the other is getting attacked from Russia and South Africa (mostly, in addition to others). Is it possible that something in the themes or plugins "announce" the sites to hackers, that somehow are exposing the fact that new Wordpress sites are now online? I am very new to Wordpress but find this very troubling that simply by switching to Wordpress that I am now encountering this new unwanted attention. I am on the same hosting company so nothing else has changed.

Hello, I was working on a website and accidentally got rid of a comma and text in the visual content. It made the slider go from 980x335 to 980x20. So the slider shows but is only 20 pixels long. I have the code in magento but I can't see that there is a static block associated with the slider. I have attached what the code looks like on the content of the page.

Hi,
I am in the process of migrating a Joomla 1.5.x site to 3.x site.
It's done for the most part. But I curious about something.
I have a custom module, with a graphic in it. I want to link the graphic to an article on my site.
In 1.5, if I tried to add a link it would come up with a dialog box that would allow me to select the article. (see attached)
Now, in 3.x, if I try to add a link, the dialog box seems to only accept a direct http:// link, with no option to browse the list of current articles. Is there some advanced feature in 3.x that I need to turn on to see this advanced dialog box for linking articles?
Thanks!

I am looking for a small PHP (7 compatible) solution which allows user to edit files from specific folder on website without using ftp.
Something similar to Joomla's admin template component, it shows specific folder of template with files and folders, and allows you to edit, to create and to delete files.

A hoster does not allow creating new ftp users to specific paths, but I don't want to provide ftp access to root directory to plugging developer.

Hi CMS Experts,

I've inherited the maintenance of a website which is stored in razorCMS.  I hadn't heard of razorCMS, but maybe some of you have.  Someday I might convert the site to a more common & flexible CMS (e.g. WordPress), but right now I don't have time.  I've changed various things without too much difficulty, but one thing I can't work out how to do is change the style of the menus (e.g. font, size, "boldness", etc).  The current theme is "Bootswatch Paper (1-column)".

I tried Firefox Developer Tools (F12) to track down the style, haven't been able to work it out yet, and maybe there's a better way of changing the style than hacking the .css files.

Do any of you know how to change the menu font in razorCMS?

Here's the site in case you need to see it.

Thanks.

hello,

We are migrating our internally hosted CMS to SP hosted on the O365. In order to prevent any broken links available in the thousands of documents how can we manage that the Old links when clicked can be redirected to the new links on the o365 hosted SP CMS.

Many Thanks
