Web-Based CMS

A web-based content management system (CMS) provides website authoring, collaboration, and administration tools that enables users with little knowledge or experience to create and manage website content. Most CMS systems use a content repository or a database to store page content, metadata, and other information assets, and a presentation component that displays the content to website visitors.

we have inherited a wordpress website to maintain from a retiring admin. What I would phrase the 'footer' (excuse me whatever the web equivalent term is for the end of each page) of each page is a logo, but that needs to change. Is it common in wordpress that would only need to be set once, or will I need to update the image numerous times (once per page). Unsure as yet where to look to change, and whether it is do-able in one go. We do have access to WP admin centre with admin rights to edit anything.

Develop a strong foundation and understanding of web design by learning HTML, CSS, and additional tools to help you develop your own website.

We have inherited a wordpress site that does not have ssl, so login credentials are sent plain text (the site doesnt collect any other personal data). Are there any recommendations on who to use and any other dos and donts regarding selecting a certificate and approx costs. Are the costs 'one off' or annual?
My University uses Plone as CMS but I feel that its possibilities of building forms (I guess via PloneFormGen module) is very limited.
In particular we need:
1) the possibility of deciding a "quota" for the subscribers to a given event (so after the passing of this quota the customer receives a standard & web-editor-customizable message)
2) the possibility of relate some fields of the form (I.e. the field B appears if and only if the field A is compiled or choosen)
3) more freedom on the html-editing of the form (now -at least on my university configuration- I can add html only before & after the <form> object and NOT. I.E. between its fields)
I've made some googling and I've seen the existence of other modules (SignupSheet with the development stopped at 2012, z3c.form): has someone tried them? I'm curious to know if these packages resolve the 3 points written above.
Or, in alternative, do you know some open source package as a valid alternative?

Thanks a lot,
Need Sitecore and .NET MVC practice site

I will be placed on a client location in a few weeks and at that time will be granted access to the existing Sitecore database. Until then, I need some hands on practice with Sitecore.

First, what is the correct term for a Sitecore file? It's not a database, but what term do you use to describe it?

I will be using Sitecore with .NET C# MVC.

I have Visual Studio installed and SSMS, but may need to put on SQL Server as well.

What can you suggest? I will also have no access to the source code until I am at the client location, so I just need something akin to a sandbox where I can play around. An existing, working MVC site with an integrated Sitecore demo database would be best.

What can you suggest?

Tips to mastering Sitecore

I have a rare opportunity to invest lots of time into learning Sitecore, in preparation for a job integrating Sitecore with a .NET MVC application. So, the more I learn now, the further I can go in implementing Sitecore.

What videos and topics can you suggest I did into to make the most out of this one month deep dive into Sitecore.

And what related technologies might I also consider?

SITECORE: Key differences between Core, Master and Web

I am new to Sitecore and seek a simple explanation of the key differences between Core, Master and Web.

Also, is Sitecore considered a form of "cloud computing"?

I need a versatile asp.NET Content Management System which can be used for various websites and web-apps, for instance...

- Brochure sites.
- Knowledgebase sites.
- E-Commerce sites.

I need a widely used CMS which has strong community/support base and lots of extensions/add-ons.

I don't mind paying a premium if the solution works.

Please can I have some recommendations.

Many thanks

when you use a 3rd party to host your website, where does the responsibility typically split in terms of the technology stack on who has to apply patches to all the relevant components of the web stack? e.g. do they typically patch your CMS and any underlying databases, or only lower levels of the stack?

I am trying to quantify risks with the current 'management' and roles & resp[responsibilities of our websites 'content management system' (concrete5). I have never administered a content management system for a website before, but my overall understanding on permissions is there is an admin level role which allows overall control, and then there are author level roles, which allow a number of users to edit content on specific pages or areas of the site. My concern, from a contingency perspective, is we only have 1 officer with admin permissions on the CMS, and the others are only author level roles. The concern being if the 1 current admin was unavailable for example ill health for a few months, what would grind to a halt in terms of the overall CMS management?

Back to the 'I have never administered a content management system for a website before' - if you are a CMS admin, what activities/maintenance/monitoring requires admin level permissions in a solution, or put another way, if nobody logged in as an admin for numerous weeks, what could the knock on effect be? I was also hoping to establish some standard maintenance checklists that the CMS admin has to perform, so if they were unavailable another officer could pick up their duties and would have an easy 'how to guide' on which to follow. Ideally supplemented with formal training.
Coming Soon! I am working on this right now.  I will be back.

One example is an outdoor buzzer that rings to phone.
Another is content management system on computer that allows resident to notify management company that toilet is overflowing.

Hello Experts - I am planning to replace our web filtering service next year and wanted to get some ideas and opinions on what works for you.  We're currently using Websense which I've never been a big fan of.  I'd like a solution that does a good job of clearly reporting web activity that can be easily understood by non-technical managers and helps prevent users from accessing sites that they shouldn't, preferably with an easy to use interface.  Please let me know what you think, thanks!
I've just had some major "internal" work done on my website (built with FrontPage), and as a result, will need to replace some code on over 100 individual pages.  My freelance coder said that it just might be time for me to consider a Content Management System. I looked at some CMS sites, and I'm starting to think he's right.

My website is www.radiogeorge.com

My coder has suggested I look at:

    WordPress  -- https://wordpress.org/
    Joomla - https://www.joomla.org/
    Drupal - https://www.drupal.org/

saying that the best candidate might come from this short list, considering the structure of the site.

FrontPage has given me familiarity with  tweaking pages to the extent that they look O.K. and are easy to use, but beyond that, if I am going to go with a CMS, I would like to go with one that is very easy to use, since it looks like I'll be rebuilding the while enchilada.

So, experts, I'm asking you to scope things out and give me your recommendations before I get involved with learning and implementing a whole new bunch of tools to get the job done. Key thing to keep in mind: while I'm not a rank beginner in messing around with web pages, I am far from being up on the latest tools, so simple is best. I am not ruling out paying for a CMS tool, if it is indeed easy to use.

I have a created a custom meta box with field called model_num using CMB2 for my custom Taxonomy. Is it possible to show that field under WordPress Screen Options

add_action( 'cmb2_init', 'pc_register_product_items_metabox' );
function pc_register_product_items_metabox() {

	// Start with an underscore to hide fields from custom fields list
	$prefix = '_pc_prod_';
	$cmb_prod = new_cmb2_box( array(
		'id'            => $prefix . 'product_items_metabox',
		'title'         => __( '<strong style="font-size:20px;text-transform:uppercase;">Badge Item Details</strong>', 'cmb2' ),
        'object_types' => array( 'badge-gallery-item' ), // post type
		'context'       => 'normal',
		'priority'      => 'high',
		'show_names' => true, // Show field names on the left

	) );
    $cmb_prod->add_field( array(
    'name' => 'Badge Model Number',
    'desc' => 'enter badge model number below, that be referenced by customers when they call in',
    'id'   => $prefix . 'model_num',
    'type' => 'text',
    'default' => '',
    ) );

I have a customer who wants to convert her joomla site to wordpress and has asked to find out how much it would cost to do so. I have no idea at all so I can't setup a Gigs request since I have no budget idea in mind. As such my question is two-fold: 1) can those plugins for wordpress convert a joomla site to wordpress (and how well does it work)? 2) how would I go about determining how much a conversion would cost without using a conversion plugin? She does not want me to share her website URL yet. I know that would be helpful but at this point, I can't go against her wishes. Thanks!

I'm looking to understand the Joomla account activation string. It ends with 'menuid' and 'Itemid' numbers. But I've played with these, and they don't seem to do anything. I was hoping that changing these would enable me to land the activating user on whatever page I wanted, but this doesn't seem to be the case.

Here's an example:

What is the purpose of the 'menuid' and 'Itemid' numbers in the Joomla activation link query string?

I'm interested in creating a Joomla extension for sending out user account activation emails. I need to know about the activation token.

The activation token appears to be hex code. The token generated when I registered my test account was 1c99b9e50f765fe8e25e2d6f8d328e78

Where does this code come from? Is it saved anywhere to the database, and/or is it created based upon info submitted by the user - or something else?

I need to know this so that I can generate it myself.

Thanks for any help!

what are the free web hosting  and blogging service providers/services that allow monetization ( eg: google adsense)
Windows Folders are so archaic. I want to use a system of tagging, metadata to keep up with my files and folder contents. (I know this can be done on files). The goal is to quickly be able to find files and folders (or rather tagged items or groups) using advanced type search.  I'm talking about Metadata and Tagging instead of the old school folders in folders in folders and file names with specific naming conventions.  I do this all the time in Enterprise CMS systems, but I'm looking to do it locally for my own sanity on my computer.  I'm ok if the folder structure needs to stay for now but ultimately once it's created, I want to find it again without drilling down.  Has anyone seen a solution for the PC that allows for this?
Hi All,

I inherited a Joomla 1.5 site.  Within the site, we have a training section and menu is broken.
Joomla broken menu screenshot.

Everything else on the site seems to work.  All the other menus work fine in the other sections.  I tried clearing out the cache and creating a new menu module for the site and that did not work.

Thank you for all of your help in advance

as an service company we need to let our customers sign new contracts every week. for the moment those contracts are paper based.

is there a good way to put this contract online? i mean that the customer can read this online and then sign the contract digitally?

so we can email the contract out and let the customer sign online.
