Hi there ,

I have western digital 2.5" 320gb laptop hard disk that seems dead.

I connect the hard disk externally to my laptop .

I opened disk manager and message says : disk 2 unknown, not initialized.

When I click on initialize disk,  a message pops up device is not ready.

So the Microsoft disk manager recognises the disk, but it is unable to initialize the disk.

Is it possible to revive the hard disk and initialize it with some software tools  for windows 7 ?

Hi

I'm having issues with my mouse buttons
It went wrong after running XP in a VM

I use a Roller Plus Joystick

It has left, right, double click and hold (Drag and Drop)  buttons these function the same as a standard mouse button and require no special driver

However something has gone wrong

In order to keep left and right correct I've had to switch primery and secondary buttons Control Panel -> Mouse

This has caused the double click  button to function as right click

Looking at the mouse driver properties  See pic there are 3 ?
mouse.JPGI've attempted to rename these in safe mode but got access denied also tried to uninstall

Is it possible to completely remove the mouse drivers forcing windows to download a new driver?

we have an urgent requirement of deploying some updates and internet explorer 11 on the windows 7 clients.

we have a lot of agents without sccm agent as we have some pki issues.

I want to temporarily install a wsus server and want to install a few updates and internet explorer 11

is it ok to redirect the clients to a temporary wsus server for updates and then unlink the GPO so that the clients go back to the SUP installed on SCCM.

any help on installing and configuring the wsus server for my situation

I am trying to configure a Windows 7 PC as an NTP server, but doesn't matter which config I try, the "w32tm /query /source" always returns the result to be "Local CMOS clock "
The PC is on my domain, but I have denied it access to read the network time policy, firewall is turned off on the PC.

What are my possible next steps?
What ports if any do I need to open on the physical firewall?

Does anyone have a config that has been tried tested and proven?

We have several Windows 7 OS workstations that when running updates, a message appears indicating "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes."  Is there an easy fix to this so that the workstation can receive updates?

My Windows 7 laptop freezes up several times a day for 20-40 seconds.  I just ran a reliability report, and I do see this. I am running Office 2013 now, so maybe there's something I can do to stop these update attempts. However, I have been having this issue for a long time, long before I installed Office 2013.

I'm uninstalling any programs related to Office versions before 2013 and will then restart.

Client has 4 computers (911 dispatch stations) and they use a mapping program that shows location of caller on their maps. The program uses MSMQ. About every two weeks the computers randomly uninstalls it. I can't imagine the dispatchers doing this manually, or for what reason. Could there be a windows update causing this to occur??

Recurring Access MDB data corruption

I am upgrading a Access 2003 application to Access 2016 for a client.  The application has about 8 - 12 users.

For the last nine years each user had their local copy of the FE mdb.  The data MDB resided on the server and all user were linked to it.  Nine years, no corruption issues.

During that time all users had Access 2007 and Windows 7 installed on their local machines.

The client wants to move to Win 10/ Access 2016.

I upgrade the FE application to an accdb.  Most functionality in the application stayed the same but some of the functionality, mostly the export of reports in preview mode had ot be revised since the old Access 2003 'Export' threw an error in Access 2013 and 2016.

I wanted to a controlled rollout to find any problems in the Accdb prior to rolling it out to all users.  The client purchased two WIn 10/Access 2016 machines.  I installed the upgraded application on those machines.  The backend DB is still and MDB.    All users (Win 7/Access 2007) and WIn 10 Access 2016) connect to the same backend MDB

The first couple of days went smoothly with about 7 users on the old Win 7/Access 2007 version and 2 user on the new Win10/2016 versionbut now their seems ot be a data corruption issue almost daily.  The users get '3343 Unrecognized database format'.

Given this scenario, does anyone see a reason this issue is occurring?

Several imes in the past I have had clients with a mix operating systems and Access…

All physical devices are affected. Are you also affected? Are there any workarounds?

Thanks

I have an excel Macro that I have been running on Windows 7 for years without a problem. I recently updated to Windows 10.
Every time I run the macro now I get the Error 1004.

Any ideas how to fix this problem?

Thanks...

I am running Windows 7 64 bit, Office 2010. At one point someone installed Office 2013 side by side with Office 2010 and I started to get the automation error.

Since doing that, I now cannot open an Outlook instance through VBA, I am getting an Automation Error: 8008201d - Library Not Registered when I run the following command:

Set objExcel = CreateObject("Excel.Application").  Thus I had Office 2013 removed.  I still had the issue and thus implemented the below solution.  It worked for several weeks, but now I am getting the same error.  When I go back to registry though I no longer see 1.8 so why am I still getting this error.

Solution I used and it worked fro several weeks..
Step 1. Go to Run Prompt and Type “regedit” and click ok Step 2. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Step 3. Expand Classes Step 4. Expand TypLib Step 5. Expand 00020813-0000-0000-C000-000000000046 Step 6. Select 1.8 Step 7. Right Click on 1.8 and Delete this.

Lastly I should mention I do see that MS Info Path 2013 and MS SharePoint Designer 2013 is loaded to my PC - not sure if that is creating the conflict..

After making a change to an existing group policy that was previously applied to all computers in the domain, now will only update some computers with the change, not all.

Hallo Experts

I would like to collect the following Threat Artifacts from a compromised Windows System:

  • CPU
  • Routing-, ARP- & Process tables
  • Memory
  • Temporary files
  • Relevant data from storage media

What would you collect? Is there any best practice from NIST or anyware?

Thanks a lot

Hallo Experts

For our Security Operations Center (SOC), we are searching for a tool that can collect “Threat Artifacts”. When I worked with McAfee in the past, they used GetSusp to collect information about undetected malware on their computer.

We are searching for a similar tool that we can use in the network to collect information remotely. What would you recommend us? It would be nice, if the tool would work on Windows & Linux, albeit this is not a must.

Thanks a lot

Hey Experts.  I've tried putting together a PS script to delete user profiles that are not related to the default user accounts (local admin, etc).  The environment is Win 7 Enterprise and will be applied to the training room computers which have been getting killed by user profiles eating up drive space.  Your time/help is appreciated.

im having trouble Updating windows 7 pro computers to windows 10.

I have upgraded at least 100 computers to windows 10. i have one small network of 3 computers that refuse to upgrade. im about to go onsite and do it from a flash drive and disconnected from the internet. every time i upgrade, i get an error that says error updating and thats it.
I took one computer and cloned it. i took the clone back to my office and booted it on another computer of the same generation (4th Gen) and without anything special, i was able to complete the upgrade....i removed one piece of software so i assumed it was that but when i tried a the business, it failed again. i tried on all three. is there anything i am missing...i have never had an upgrade fail like this...

We have a Windows 7 machine (Dell that is several years old) that has a HP LaserJet 4000 connected to it via a Parallel to USB adapter.

Just recently it showed up as the dreaded UNKNOWN DEVICE under Devices and Printers.  (It had been working flawlessly for years.)

We have tried to move it to a different USB without any success and can't seem to find a way to delete it is completely from the computer and reinstall the driver and USB instance.

How can we make Windows 7 "forget this printer ever existed" and try to install it again? (The only options to fix it are troubleshoot it which doesn't work.)

(PS We have tried the printer and adapter on another computer with Windows 7 and it works!)

i'm looking at a pc that is rather slow; it has following hardware
mobo P8H61-M with i3 -2130 cpu and  8 Gb Ram + 1 TB WD drive for OS and data
when i open taskmanager, i see lots of spikes on disk usage, cpu and ram seem rather normal
the disk shows several AVG processes - can that be the cause ? -it's AVG free btw
is Panda Free AV better ?

 - the system seems virus free, but the disk is about 60 % full -  - disk is tested with WD diag and passed !
what should i also look into?

Windows 7 Home SP1 upgrading to Windows 10 Home via the media creation tool (Upgrade this PC).  It downloads everything and gets all the way to installing.  It looks like it is putting the finishing touches and about to reboot, when it goes to a simple box that says something about FAILED.  I have tried twice on this PC, but did not take a picture.  I have removed all antivirus type software.  I have run SFC wich reports no problems.  Everything works on this computer just fine, but need to install Office 2019... so the reason for the upgrade to Windows 10.  Computer is an i5-4th Gen.  Every attempt starts over on the download (DSL 25Mbps), so it takes a couple of hours to get to the fail point.  HDD is newer and SMART and tests show it in perfect condition.
