Hello Experts. I have a windows 7 system that has a recover partition.   While in Disk Management (in Computer Management) I cannot get any access to the "recovery partition".

When I highlight it and right mouse click all I get is "help", I don't get the other options normally preseted for drives.

Because of this I cannot perform Windows updates or upgrade the system to Windows 10.

How should I resolve this issue?

Hi,

We are planning to upgrade windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 pro.

I have realised that Windows 10 pro volume license does not exist. I can only buy either OEM or digital license directly from Microsoft.

They only have Windows 10 E3 or E5 availble via CSP but not sure if I can convince the client to buy this as I think it's not needed. So about 30 PCs, if moving to windows 10 Pro with a digital license, they will cost a lot $339 AUD per license. I have upgraded one of the PCs to Windows 10 Pro using a media ISO tool from MS website and this PC shows it is activated.

Some people say if activation says it is activated but it does not mean you have a license. I am not quite sure if there are any options. How do you guys upgrade your 7 pro machines to 10 pro?

I have a WCF Service which is hosted in IIS on my Windows 7 PC and  it has the following data contract defined:

  [DataContract]
    public class RtnFromServiceParms
    {
        [DataMember]
        public string passedUserId { get; set; }
        [DataMember]
        public string passedBadgeId { get; set; }
        [DataMember]
        public string passedUserName { get; set; }
        [DataMember]
        public string passedEnv { get; set; }
        [DataMember]
        public string passedSecLvl { get; set; }

        ..
 ..

        public RtnFromServiceParms()
        {
            passedUserId = " ";
            passedBadgeId = " ";
            passedUserName = " ";
            passedEnv = " ";
     passedSecLvl = " ";

        ..
 ..

        }
    }

Open in new window

//
// In the server application MyRtnFromServiceParms is a new instance of RtnFromServiceParms()
//
MyRtnFromServiceParms = new RtnFromServicParms();

From the client application the service is called as follows:

//
// Call to Service
//
MyRtnFromServiceParms = client.NextTransactionSeq(MyPassToServiceParms);

However in my client WebForm1.aspx I am getting an error "Webform1.MyRtnFromServiceParms is inaccessible due to its protection level"  In WebForm1.aspx.cs references to MyRtnFromServiceParms are not showing any error.

We recently migrated 14 users to Windows 10 from Windows 7.  The server they connect to was an SBS2008 server.  Since the change, searching on shared drives through Windows 10 has been painfully slow or either doesn't work when searching for files, contents, folders, etc.  Since then, we ended up replacing their SBS2008 server with Windows 2016.  After doing some research, supposedly this was suppose to help and/or fix the searching  (we didn't replace the server for this reason though).
Is Windows 10 search just simply broken and doesn't work like previous versions of Windows or is there specific settings that need to be changed on each PC/Server for it to work?  I've already gone through Indexing, rebuilding search index, restarting windows search, modifying search contents, etc, but it hasn't worked.

How can I bypass Vasco Digipass log in when connecting with RDP?
We have many Windows 7 blades/workstations that are accessed for admin activities through RDP. When there is a need to log in, we must provide credentials for RDP, then choose "Other User" and provide log in credentials again. This is not a big deal when there is a one-off need, but extremely time consuming when multiple systems must be logged in to. I am aware that there are many ways to accomplish our admin duties through PowerShell, and we do. Systems can only be accessed by RDP through admin accounts, so there is no real security worry. Any direction is appreciated.

Currently using office 2016 (365) and windows 7 64 bit.  I have noticed that some users outlook will go blank when they click off off of an email and go to use something else.  Its almost as if it is a security feature to stop people from reading your emails.  When the user clicks back into the email the text will come back.  One thing that I did notice is that when the email is maximized it will not do it.  Any ideas?

Windows 7 - 64 Bit.  Had been working fine.   When you click the icon, you get an hourglass for a couple of seconds and then it goes away.   You see two instances of Chrome in task manager, but they go away after about 30 seconds.

Here is what I have done all to no avail:

1.  Tried starting Chrome in Safe Mode
2.  Uninstalled & Re-Installed chrome (told it to delete the settings)
3,  Deleted Chrome registry entries and deleted the "Chrome" folder in both %appdata% and %localappdata%
4.  Tried running as administrator.   Also checked rights under security.
5.   Ran the netsh winsock reset routine
6.   Rebooted the computer multiple times.
7.   Turned off Anti-Virus and Firewall temporarily.
8.   System restore to a date/time where it was working.

Have tried running from a desktop shortcut, task bar & directly from the program folder.  Internet Explorer works fine, but we need Chrome as some websites we use don't render well under IE.

I’ve just been upgraded to a new Office thin client type desktop computer Dell Wyse 5070 (one of those where we have a thin client and all the processing of everything is being done on a central server).  Had a junior IT guy set up my system and something is not right, I don’t believe it is a central admin policy setup because I can do everything I want on a Firefox app.

1.      My Google account Sync is paused when I open Chrome
2.      My extensions like session buddy, amazon tool and various other extensions do not load but my Cisco webex is the only extension that loads when I open Chrome (without logging in)
3.      I am forced to login each time before my web site passwords etc pull down
4.      My previous tabbed sessions do not load

How do I fix all these issues?  It was semi working on the first day I got this new computer but because I complaint about my bookmarks and links not syncing automatically when I opened Chrome, he said that my profile was corrupt and did something such that now, the book marks are there but all my extensions disappear the moment I restart my PC.

It is reccomended that you check your laptop manufactures or graphics card vendor website for an updated graphics driver before using DisplayLink software"

This is what I see on the screen 2

Hello Experts,
I have a remote client that is replacing her Windows 7 PC with a Windows 10 PC.  She has large shared file(s) on her W7 PC (that are accessed by others on the same LAN in her office) exceeding 120GB.    She wants the shared file(s) to be on her W10 PC to maintain ownership but still wants them to be accessible by everyone else (on Windows 7 PC's).
Can someone provide step-by-step instructions on how I can walk her through accomplishing this?

Thanks!

I am having an Issue with Microsoft Office. I had Microsoft Office 2010 Professional (64 Bit) on Windows 7 Professional and when I try to save Microsoft Excel and Word Files it crashes. I upgraded to Office 365 Pro Plus and I am still having the same issue, the appllications will crash when trying to save a new file.  I can open existing files, but they will crash if I try to save again.  I tried uninstalling, rebooting and reinstlaling but I am still having the same issue.  I contacted Microsoft but they didn't know what the issue is either. I am not having any other issues on my computer, other than saving the office files.  Thanks for any info you can provide.

After Corporate updated our computers on September 1, 2019 with windows patches we have a windows 2008 r2 server and a Windows 7 computer that continuously reboot into windows memory diagnostics.  if you go to a command prompt, it diesn't show a C drive.  Instead, it shows an X drive where Windows is installed.  Any idea of a patch that may have caused this.  Corporate installs patches the first Sunday of every month and then reboots the servers.

Please find the scenario

     A corporate environment in which none of the systems having an internet connection, all the system are installed with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit OS. We had upgraded it to windows 10 pro using same windows 7 product key. Now please let me know is there any provision for activating the os without a direct internet connection to the systems.

we have already tested the following scenarios

1. Activated one of the systems successfully with a direct internet connection
 2. Activated Via Proxy server, that is also working
3. Try to activate via Microsoft volume activation management tool it is showing an error "The Activation server reports that the product key has been blocked"

Please help us to solve the issue

O/S: Windows 7
Hardware: Dell 7810

The system recently ( over the past 2 -3 months ) has been crashing with a BSOD and giving me a memory dump. This happens randomly. It has occurred a couple of times during the day and it has happened over night and on weekend when no one if on the system.

It seems to be pointing at the iaStorB driver. The driver seems to be updated.
I am not sure if I need this driver or how to remove it.

I have attached screen shot and I do have the full memory dump but it is 1.5 Gigs so uploading maybe an issue.

Any help would be appreciated of riding myself of this issue.

Thanks

Ciao tutti,

An error prevented a required compliance check from completing. Cancel the installation and try upgrading again

The computer started using the Windows installation disc. Remove theWindows installation disc and restart your computer so that Windows starts normally. Then insert the Windows installation disc and restart the upgrade. (Do not select "Custom (advanced)" to perform an upgrade.

Dunque,sono bloccato. Non so come fare questo upgrade. Quale e' la soluzione ? grazie.

Hi

We have windows 2012 domain controllers and Win7 and Win10 workstations.
I have set up a GPO for installing the web filtering client software on the domain level.
So any PC joined to the domain this web filtering client is installed .

I noticed that every time i restart the domain controllers , it says that it is installing the web filtering client software and then after installing it goes to the windows logon screen. I think the same should happen with all the workstation in the network, when they are restarted.

Is there any settings in the GPO, so that when the DC is restarted and checks the GPO and if this  software is installed , it ignores reinstalling  and if the client is not installed it installs the client.

Any help would be great.
Thanks

We have Kiosk systems running either Windows 7 or Windows 10 IOT. These systems are running a kiosk application in full screen mode. Using our RMM software (Kaseya), we would like to be able to scan the network traffic for a little while as a test to see if the data is encrypted or not. We would like to use something like Wireshark monitoring the loopback adapter, but it would be great if we could do it non-obtrusively (through the remote shell) so we don't need to take the system out of service. My understanding with Wireshark is I have to have WinPcap installed.

I have two questions:

1. If using Wireshark, can I install remotely & silently? Same with WinPcap?
2. If not, are there any other ways to get a small data dump using a remote shell? Other alternatives to Wireshark?

Windows 7.  Running a program generates a COM Class factory with CLSID:  {0002450-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} due to error code:  80040154

The issue is when it is trying to write an excel document.  It is excel / office 365.  It worked the other day, today it stopped working and we cannot figure out why.

Hi,

I have the following script in a powershell file that is being executed remote via command line (running the script locally works fine):

#Remove any registered events related to notifications
[void] [System.Reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName(“System.Windows.Forms”)

#MessageBox
msg /server:localhost /time:300 /w /v console "IT Department Notification: Please leave your computer turned on tonight. We will initiate the updating of the operating system of your workstation to the highest level.The workstation will restart at 4AM"

Add-Type -AssemblyName System.Windows.Forms
$global:balloon = New-Object System.Windows.Forms.NotifyIcon
#$path = (Get-Process -id $pid).Path
#$balloon.Icon = [System.Drawing.Icon]::ExtractAssociatedIcon($path)
$balloon.Icon = "D:\ivanti_noti\mcb_info.ico"
$balloon.BalloonTipIcon = [System.Windows.Forms.ToolTipIcon]::Warning
$balloon.BalloonTipText = 'What do you think of this balloon tip?'
#$balloon.BalloonTipTitle = "Attention $Env:USERNAME"
$balloon.BalloonTipTitle = "ITD Notification"
$balloon.Visible = $true
$balloon.ShowBalloonTip(600)

Here the command line script that is being executed remotely:
"powershell.exe" "-Command" "if((Get-ExecutionPolicy) -ne 'AllSigned') {Set-ExecutionPolicy -Scope Process Bypass}; $sN='N.ps1'; $fP = 'C:\Windows\ProPatches\Installation\' + (gci C:\Windows\ProPatches\Installation\ | ? { $_.PSIsContainer } | Select-Object -Property Name | select -Last 1).Name.tostring() + '\' + …

Drives are mapped via GPO, still accessible but causes problem with Worldox application and it will not load. Tried to disconnect and reboot but it causes the drive to come back as disconnected. The only way I can get it to work is running psexec -i -s cmd then run net use * /delete then run gpupdate /force. it reboots and logs in fine, red X's are gone, Logging in and out works but as soon as you reboot the red x's returns and I have to repeat the above. Just started happening with random clients recently.  I have tried the replace cmd in the GPO with no results. This is driving me nuts!!! any help is appreciated.   I've searched for solutions but not finding any luck.

I have previously used the Task Scheduling workaround to avoid the UAC prompt when running my podcast aggregator, Juice, but recently it has not been working.  I tried to go into the Task Scheduler today to recreate the scheduled task, but got this error:

"An error has occurred for task Reminders - (name).  Error message: The specified account name is not valid."
