Computer HP Pavilion, RAM 8 GB, Windows 8.1 64-bit.
The computer is very slow and quite often it freezes (not responding).
This behaviour is not related to what I am doing at that time.
I am using only MS Office 2010, Adobe Reader and Google Chrome.

What should I do?

Hello Experts,

I would like to shrink my main primary boot partition containing Win 8.1 (C:), so I can extend my Win 10 preview partition (E:) which is adjacent and to the right of C: (Please see attached screen capture of my disc configuration). I need to do this because I failed to create enough space for the Win 10 installation and I'm running low on usable disk space.

Is this doable using the Win disk manager or do I need a 3rd party tool?

Thanks!

My current disc configuration

Good afternoon...

I have Windows 7 "server" setup with users, groups and shares.  All the Win7 computers can access the shares with out any problem.  I just added a new Win8.1 computer and can see the shares but gets invalid user or password trying to access them.  The user has the correct permissions and can access from his Win7 computer.  It is in the same workgroup and I have tried disabling the firewall, tried setting the Network Location to Public and Private,  but nothing helped.  Does anyone has a fix for this?

Thanks

Carter

Hi

I have a customer who has a problem with two clients (Windows 7).  The Magnifier and On-Screen Keyboard is starting on those both clients each login. How can I disable it? All other 561 client’s are not having this problem.

I checked with Auto start, Ease of Access Center and Magnifier + On-Screen Keyboard is disabled. Also, these did not help:

Many thanks in advance

I am trying to follow guides that show to install the Nexus 5 drivers from google form the SDK however the drivers in the zip file that I download do not seem compatible with Windows 8.1 as they are not seen and the Wizard just ends saying it could not find a diver for my device.

This is the guide I first tried:
http://www.talkandroid.com/guides/beginner/how-to-install-the-lollipop-ota-on-your-nexus-device-download-links-included/

I looked for the "ADB composite device" in this article but it is not found on my system even after listing Hidden devices:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/25327339/windows-8-1-device-manager-now-showing-acer-device-rather-than-android-device-fo

Any ideas on how to get the google use drivers installed for he Nexus 5 on Windows 8.1?

Even Microsoft's website does not provide a single page matrix that compares all the versions.  Assistance in finding such a matrix is greatly appreciated.

For some reason IE11 (metro) is displaying page cannot be found: •Make sure the web address http://www.google.com is correct (does this for any URL)
IE desktop and Chrome have no such issue and can browse no problem.

I have looked in the event log and nothing, I click the diagnose button on IE error page but it just spins round forever.
I have not added any IE add-ins or made any firewall or A/V exclusions... it just started happening!

Any idea what it can be? While in IE11 (metro) I look at tools/options but don't see the usual settings I would expect so can only assume that IE metro uses the "internet options" as set in IE desktop?

I would like to know how to perform a vulnerability report that can generate a report of the before and after results . I have been searching on the Internet and have found mostly organizations that want to consult with you and charge large sums of money.  All i need is a piece of software of utility than can scan my computers or network and provide the aforementioned before and after results. I don't expect this to be a free utility and am willing to pay for a reliable vulnerability report assessment

Please give me your recommendations on what software I should be using to perform vulnerability  assessment.
Thank you in advance.

I've got a Toshiba Satellite S75 with a VGA port, and would like a 3-monitor setup (extending screens, not duplicating).

Two monitors is straightforward in Windows, but how do I do three?

(the second and third monitors have VGA inputs)

I need to recommend a computer to be used by the public in a hotel lobby environment. I cant be cleaning this computer of junk software and malware every week. I need some recommendations. I have seen some use Thin Clients that run a light version of Windows 7 - they seem able to use most web content and are Read only so rebooting them rids any malicious and junk software that has been installed. Is that my best bet?

Another option I have thought about is a drive imaging application that could easily be re imaged by the staff.

My worry in using the Thin client is some web content will not work and we cant have that.

Thanks for your ideas!

I am trying to use a desktop computer with Windows 8.1 and am getting an error message when trying to copy cells from one tab to another in Excel 2010.  I do not have the problem on my Win 7 laptop or a different Win 7 desktop.

The issue:
I have a spreadsheet with a pivot table that I refresh weekly from an Access database.  Each week I create a new tab by right clicking on the previous week's tab and selecting Copy.  After renaming the new tab with the date, I go back to the previous week's tab, click the top left corner of the spreadsheet so that the entire sheet is selected, right click, select Copy, and then Paste Values.  The last step prevents the previous week's data from getting updated when I refresh the pivot table on the current week's tab.  There is no problem doing this with the exact same file on my Win 7 laptop or Win 7 desktop.  It only happens on the Win 8.1 desktop.  I initially had Office Pro 32-bit on the Win 8.1 desktop but I uninstalled it and installed the 64-bit version hoping that would resolve the issue, but it has not.  The problem occurs when I select Copy - I get the message:  Excel cannot complete this task with available resources.  Choose less data or close other applications.  This happens after a reboot with no other applications open.  Also as I mentioned above it happens with 32-bit and 64-bit Excel.

Configuration details:
My laptop has Win 7 SP1 64-bit, 6 GB RAM and Office 2010 Pro 32-bit.  My desktop that works has Win 7 SP1 …

Experts,
I own a Microsoft Surface Pro and have had good luck with it for approximately 2 years.   I am not sure if an update is causing the problem or there is a problem with my Microsoft updates or network drivers, but periodically my network adapters just disappear.  When I click into the network adapter folder, all of my adapters are gone.   I have to restore my system to a previous state with system restore.

Is there a problem with my Surface that I should be concerned about?  I have been lucky and able to restore to a previous state, but what if I do not have that option.   What could be wrong with my system?

When network & sharing or firewall icons are clicked the window opens and shows the spinning wheel but nothing happens - have waited 10 minutes.  The only way to close the window is to use task manager.  Win 8.1

I'm on Windows 8.1.
In Control Panel, System and Security, Action Acenter it shows my Windows Defender is off for Spyware and unwanted software protection as well as for Virus Protection. How do I turn them back on?

This is probably going to be an easy one for someone out there. I am learning PowerShell and writing a script to detect memory configurations on machines and failing at the first hurdle of how many memory slots does a machine have and how many are populated. At first the command "Get-CimInstance -ClassName Win32_PhysicalMemoryArray" was a blessing as the property BankLabel or devicelocator looked like a win however I have 2 machines with win8.1 and one machine with server 2012R2 on and on 1 8.1 machine the propertys devicelocator and banklabel don't exist but memorydevices does and on the other 2 (8.1&2012R2) memorydeices does not exist but devicelocator and banklabel do. In short WTF how can I have two different sets of properties from the same command on the same version of PS? Thanks in advance

Remote Desktop app was part of the standard windows xp pro and windows 7. I cannot find it in Windows 8.1 pro
Where is it hidden in Windows 8.1 pro. I know it should be included as part of the standard OS.

Does anyone know how to identify what model a Diamond Multimedia Video Card is?

I loaded Windows 8.1 on a system and Microsoft sees it as a generic. Doesn't appear that Diamond puts much more than a serial number on their cards. I was hoping to catch Diamond tech support but sadly they are closed for the evening.

It looks like it might be one of the HD 6700 series by first glance.

Just wondered if anyone knew a trick on identifying this particular manufacturer.

Was considering just using the detect and install driver feature at AMD.

I just purchase a Windows 8.1. note book. 500 Giga; I am the only one user and Administrator. I have a dropbox account. I want to replicate it on this machine. I went on my dropbox account. I downloaded dropbox and installed it. I can access the panel. End of the story. I cannot do anything else.

1. panel is frozen saying "connexion ..." and that dropbox is starting (for two days)
2. I can access the preference/options panel, but is also frozen.

I sent a mail to dropbox support to ask two days ago. But also frozen.
Hes someone an idea ?
