Windows 8

Windows 8 is a personal computer operating system developed by Microsoft as part of the Windows NT family of operating systems, with an emphasis on improving its user experience on tablets. In particular, these changes included a touch-optimized Windows shell based on Microsoft's "Metro" design language, the Start screen, a new platform for developing apps with an emphasis on touchscreen input, integration with online services, support for USB 3.0, Advanced Format hard drives, near field communications, and cloud computing. Additional security features were introduced, such as built-in antivirus software, integration with Microsoft SmartScreen phishing filtering service and support for UEFI Secure Boot on supported devices with UEFI firmware.

Hi

One of our customer wants to log with Username and / or Email (Like user principal name. But the username@domain  is not the Email adress. They use name.surname@domain as the Email adress) in their environment. I did some research and it is not possible to combine username and Email adresses. Can you confirm me this?

Environment information:
- They have Windows 7 and 10 Enterprise
- all Servers are 2012 R2
- They do also have Exchange 2016

Many thanks in advance.

Hello Experts,

I have to fix a DELL desktop that came with Windows 8 and the password was forgotten while starting the setup.

So we are locked out of the desktop.

I 'm not sure how to reinstall the OS or start over. Should I download the OS and reinstall the OS? It will have to be with a USB drive this desktop does not have a CD drive.

For all your help and comments thank you

We took in a Pavillion 20 AIO recently that the motherboard had gone out on. We bought a replacement for the board (specific to the model number of the machine), but now have no activation with Windows 8 (the original OS). Do we need a new Windows 8 OS? Is there another avenue that we could take? We've been unable to recover a serial license from the old board and with the PC being out of warranty, HP is practically unhelpful without fees of their own (Understandable, but hindering from the prospect of refurbishing a machine).

Trying to boot from CD to install windows 7. It has windows 8 right now. I have disabled secure boot and changed the boot mode to CSM.

However when it restarts i get the error " Check cable connection! PXE-M0F : Exiting Intel PXE ROM. No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"

It seems like its not picking up the dvd drive. i hear the disc spin from time to time when computer starts up. there is no cable to check since the sata connector is right on the board where the dvd drive enters the case.

I have tried going into windows without CSM enabled and going to advance settings and boot from cd that way but i get error that no boot device is available.

Everything i find online shows it as simple as changing those two things and it starting right up. Ive done this on many others with winodws 8 and as soon as i disable secure boot and change to legacy boot it works no problem. No clue whats different here.

Hi...my hp laptop has some issues with a few applications at least...when click to open.

For example when i click to open a few applications - the application window will flash and disappear and nothing would open.

One example of this too is an app called "PC Setting". When i click to open it .... it would flash and nothing would open.

A few steps i have done after googling...i have restored the system to at least 6 months ago and the system restore was successfull. However the issue still exist. I then restarted my laptop into safe mode and checked but those applications in windows 8 still wont open...as said earlier...the application  will flash up and disappear n nothing would open.

There are no updates recently made so i cant comprehend what the solution to these faults.

Maybe a fresh clean windows installation...yeah?

I mean...what could be the cause?

Hi experts.

Given: 2 sharepoint systems (test and production), both https and kerberos authentication active. SQL 2016, Windows Server 2016. Single sign on works when editing existing documents on both systems in all browsers (Edge/Chrome/IE11/FFox)

However, when creating a new document directly in the library (->file ->new document), win10 asks for authentication on any machine with any user and browser (and on both sharepoint systems). After authenticating, creation works, but that step is annoying.

And on win8.1 systems, it does not ask for authentication, no matter what user or machine or browser. We have no idea why, since there are no settings especially for win10.

What does win10 do differently?

I have developed CRM (windows/web) application using .net. This application using SQL Server 2012 and windows server 2008/2012.
This application installed  (windows deployment) in more than 20 windows 8 computers. From this computer CRM applications accessing THE production (SQL Server DB and IIS)  Windows Server 2012 server.  Since the application using WEB Services i need IIS and it hosted in the same production server (SQL Server also hosted in the same server). Also i have a backoffice portal that is hosted in the same production server(local). So in the customer internal network anybody can access thebackoffice portal using web browser.
How will the Windows CAL license work? Do i need CAL license for all 20 windows computer for accessing SQL server and IIS?

Hello and Good Evening Everyone,

Due to the nature of this upcoming question, I believe it is more of a storage issue as opposed to an operating system issue.  Basically, I wish to upgrade a Visual Land Premier 10 tablet currently running Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.  However, here is the catch.  The internal storage capacity of this tablet is only 8GB with only 899MB free.  Given this tricky situation, could someone share some insights with respect to accomplishing this goal?

            Thank you

Hello and Good Evening Everyone,

I have recently ordered a Samsung 32GB Micro-SDHC memory card for my Visual Land Premier 10 tablet which is expected to arrive on Tuesday.  Seeing that I have never used a Micro-SDHC memory card, I am wondering what will be necessary for it setup and configuration.  The operating system of this tablet is Windows 8.1.

Any feedback given will be greatly appreciated.

        Thank you

I have read the following articles that indicate how to find and use Windows 7 backup in Windows 8.

https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2012/12/using-windows-8s-hidden-backup-to-clone-and-recover-your-whole-pc/

http://winsupersite.com/article/windows8/windows-8-tip-picking-backup-strategy-144428

However I can't find this on my Win 8 installation.

Any tips?

Hi

Running laptop with Windows 8.1 basic. Each time the laptop is switched on a Windows update message stating 'Your upgrade is ready to install' is displayed. This message does not give you the opportunity to cancel the upgrade request or close the window. The only options available are a) Schedule it for later or b) Start the upgrade now.

On this particular laptop, I do not want to upgrade (I think it's to windows 10) and would like to stay on windows 8.1.

I've edited the registry as per the following Microsoft link - https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/3080351/how-to-manage-windows-10-notification-and-upgrade-options

This has not corrected the issue - Any ideas please

Hi

One of our customer is going to migrate a DHCP Server next Friday, so we have still some time.
One of my senior technician is telling that they have forgot and need to minimize the DHCP lease duration from 8 before the migration.
An other is telling that this is not needed because if all computers are shutdown during the migration, the clients should get a IP from the new server. The customers client policy is to shutdown the clients every day.

My questions:
1) Which statement is true? (The old DHCP Server is a 2003 and the new one is a 2012 R2, Clients are Windows 7 Pro)
2) If they have to reduce the DHCP lease duration, what time is recommended for Monday after the migration?

Many thanks in advance.

My client is running Win 8.1 Home on an HP laptop. A couple of days ago she started not being able to access any website secured with https on either Chrome or IE.

Yesterday, I went onsite and I took a look at her PC. I ran Malware Bytes and it found some malware (exclusively PUPs), which I told it to quarantine.

I followed the steps in this link (although I did not re-register the DLL files yet) and then I was able to access sites like LinkedIn and Netflix that use https. I rebooted several times to verify that these sites were still accessible.
https://www.techsupportall.com/solved-cannot-access-secure-sites-https-websites-not-opening-view/

This AM I got an email from the client that although at first she was able to access https sites, but then they stopped working again.

Would appreciate suggestions & feedback on this.

Thanks in advance.

Hi - I have a windows 8 pro client machine that connects to a windows 2012 domain.

When an application that is mapped to a local share as drive x: we get

Open File - Security Warning
We can't verify who created this file. Are you sure you want to run this file?
...

If I remap the same location to the Y: drive all works.
I have no idea why the X drive is treated differently than the Y drive.
Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hello and Good Morning Everyone,

I am needing help to recover a forgotten Windows 8.1  login password for a Visual Land Premier 10 tablet.  Above the password login box is the Hotmail email address.  Is it possible to somehow use the Hotmail email address to reset the Windows 8.1 login password?

Any help given in reply to this question will be greatly appreciated.

Hi

We are trying to migrate a large DHCP Server and the customer is having one important question we have to answer.

1) We must migrate the Server in the day because they don’t like to pay a night shift allowance as they are a non profit organisation. So they ask how long it will take migrate? Will the user not be able to work a long time?

Answer: We are trying to migrate the Servers at noon (so we have 1h to work), as the most clients will have got an IP then. But if somebody comes to work afterwards they will not get an IP. According to the third party Network company they will have 5 minutes to change the IP Helper.

Can you agree that answer from my technicians?

Many thanks in advance.
