The Windows operating systems have distinct methodologies for designing and implementing networks, and have specific systems to accomplish various networking processes, such as Exchange for email, Sharepoint for shared files and programs, and IIS for delivery of web pages. Microsoft also produces server technologies for networked database use, security and virtualization.

I have tried all the resolutions I could find to be able to view all computers on my domain. I have turned on network discovery file sharing and print sharing,
Started these services "Function Discovery Provider Host" and "Function Discovery Resource Publication"  DNS Client - Automatic, SSDP Discovery - Automatic, UPnP Device Host
Enabled SMB 1.0/CIFS File in Programs and Features both the SMB 1.0/CIFS Client and Server.
Ran this command from admin cmd prompt netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group="Network Discovery" new enable=Yes

I still an unable to see all computers and before win 10 I could even see my servers cannot now.

Suppose you were a home user with a VMWare Horizon client for accessing your work virtual desktop. You have an HP printer scanner and you want to print via a print server at the data center. If you setup a port at the work firewall - would it be possible to configure a printer to register with the file server with authentication? The net result being that the home user logins into their VDI and prints to their home printer via the print server in the data center.

Is that possible and done all the time? I have small offices with lan to lan VPN and that's easy to just enter the IP of the destination printer.

I have a remote user who I need to add his domain loigin to the local administrators group. I connected via VPN using my credentials but each time I try to add his user, the domain could not be contacted. What do I need to do to allow me to connect him to the domain and then add his user to the admin group on the computer....or even user group so he can login with that domain login?

refer to above link which I've followed but when my PC connects to
the Vonets  SSID (with a good four bars signal), it says "No Internet"
: will attach screen.   What did I miss?

Have set it to "Bridge mode" as recommended by previous expert.

I ever set this same device up successfully previously but someone
in the house pressed the 'Reset' button & this time round I can't
get it right\

Manual is here:

Good day all! I am trying to figure out why a work at home user has access to all internet sites but not our VPN sites, which normally everyone has access to. If they go back to the office those sites open up fine. Once off the corporate network they no longer can access them, they get page cannot be displayed. I just gave the user a loaner laptop and that works fine off the network and they can access the VPN sites and VPN.

Dear Experts
We have main office with Windows AD as DNS and DHCP server, we have following requirement
1.      Branch office is connected over MPLS network to main office, branch office IP subnet is 192.168.114.0/24 and main office network is 109.0/24 both the networks can talk to each other, we would like to join the branch office systems to the main office Windows AD domain. Please suggest how and where to add this IP subnet in the windows AD so that branch office different IP subnet gets resolved with main office Windows AD, please help with steps on “HOW TO”
2.      Few home users connect to the office network using Cisco Anyconnect client VPN software with the IP pool 172.0.0.0 series. please suggest where in windows AD to configure this IP pool so that this gets resolved via windows AD DNS.

I have 3 cisco routers with gateway to gateway vpns setup. Location 2 can ping the local domain (mydomain.local which resides at Main Location1) and everything works just fine. Users can connect to the domain perfectly.

Location 3 cannot ping mydomain.local or the netbios name of the server at MainLocation1. I can ping the ip address of the server at MainLocation1.

MainLocation 1 (Where the server resides)
Location 2 (satellite office)
Location 3 (satellite office).

On the workstation at Location 3 I manually assigned dns 1 to the server's ip.

Other details: All of the routers are the same. Any help I can get would be much appreciated!

Cannot use Windows Explorer in Windows 10 Pro. Version 1903 from work group PC to see a folder share on Windows Active Directory computer.

We have some test computers that are on their own network and we must configure the host file to use DNS hostnames those computers can recognize and access the A.D. names for folder sharing purposes.  The folder share access/process works from Windows 10 Pro. computers with version 1803; but if those computers are upgraded to Windows 10 Pro. version 1903 they can no longer access the folder share from the A.D. computers.  The Windows 10 Pro. computers that have version 1903 are workgroup PC's.

Earlier we would use the UNC (Universal Naming Convention, start-Run - \\PCNAmeHere) and then one is prompted to enter the Active Directory username/password.  Then they have access to the folder share.  When the PC is upgraded to version 1903 they are no longer prompted to enter a username/password.

The PC can still ping the hostname that is indicated in the host file and its IP address; but, explorer cannot see the shared folder from Active Directory.  Instead an erro comes up stating "Windows Cannot Access \\Servername_Here\Shared_FolderHEre".  error code 0x80070035.

My question is what can I do to get the folder shares accessible to the Windows 10 Pro. computers that have version 1903?  Other already existing Windows 10 PC's that are still working have an earlier version .. 1709, 1803.

Its been a while since I shared a folder in a Workgroup let alone a Windows 10 workgroup. We have a 2019server that is part of the workgroup and its where we want to share one folder from.  Does anyone have a good step by step reference on how to setup a user from another computer to access a resource from another computer?

Windows networking refuses to accept password - even when copied and pasted after reset!

No server involved. Just one machine sharing a bunch of its files with two others. The share is set up and working for one of the other two.

Set up the local user account for the second machine, using the same password on the host as on the client. From the client, the password was refused. So once I confirmed that it was definitely identical at both ends, I changed the password to SIMPLE, sent a copy back to the client using a "Turbonote" and copied and pasted that into the password field. Even that was rejected.  Tried simple stuff like rebooting both ends but cannot get the "Server" to accept any password from the second client. And yes, it is clearly the password failing, not the connection. The turbonote helps prove you're on the same network but windows login is reasonably specific and distinguishes between failure to find a target and failure to authenticate. In this case, it clearly recognises the target, the share and the username. It's only the password it's refusing to accept and I haven't a clue how to bully it into submission.

Suggestions?

I am having problems sharing a folder from my Windows 2007 R2 server,

If the folder to be shared is (target folder) is in the root of a local drive then simply selecting, right-clicking and selecting 'Share With...' allows me to create a share. This can be confrmed by a) I can see the share from another machine b) on the server's  [Device Manager - System Tools - Shared Folders - Shares] the new share is listed.

If the target folder is not in the root of the drive then repeating the above actions does not create a share - verified by the two methods above.

Can someone advise the correct way to create a sub-folder share ? I need this becuase I am using the share on another location but that folder can't' be moved on the home server.

DNS and DHCP Interaction

Recently we had to replace old  computers with new ones but we kept the same hostname , the new computers get different IP address than the old ones from DHCP.

Example :

Old ComputerA  replaced and named  the same ComputerA
Old ComputerA IP address: 10.10.10.10
New ComputerA IP address: 20.20.20.20

What I have noticed after replacement:
If I login locally to New ComputerA, and run Ipconfig, I will see 20.20.20.20  which is correct.
If Remotely I ping by hostname the ComputerA,  I get 10.10.10.10 with Destination Host Unreachable. [you can see it looks for old IP address]
if Remotely I ping Reverse lookup : Ping -a 20.20.20.20 , it will Reply properly and shows ComputerA  with IP 20.20.20.20

So the problem seems to be the DNS A record does not get update quickly,  I said Quickly because after sometime, if I go and ping by hostname ,ie : Ping ComputerA, I get a proper Reply with 20.20.20.20

My question is I do not understand why Reverse Ping [Ping -a <IP address>] will Reply quickly and Ping Hostname did not Reply until later time....

Any clarification will be very much appreciated.

Thank you

I have a Peplink Balance One Router at work and intend to connect 2, or more computers from the same LAN to no avail. Only one connections seems possible. Is this by design?
On the router I use L2TP/IPsec and Windows 10 built in VPN client.

Our Airtame wireless HDMI application searches for available Airtame devices on the network and shows them on the opening screen. We have multiple HDMI devices in the same building but on a different network. These devices can be accessed from the default network by typing in the IP address in the Airtame app. My question is: - Is there a way to use DNS or some other method to make these devices automatically discoverable as if they were on the same network?

Hi
I need to set up a trunk on two HP Procurve switches, not sure yet on model but I have been testing on a couple of 2920-24G J9727A

I have set up Trunk Trk1 across ports 1 and 2, and then tagged Trk1 for both my vlans, i have then repeated this on the second switch. As i havent set up trunks before, i did this via the GUI (switch firmware 16.09.0003)

Everything seems to be working ok, spanning tree is enabled and both ports are still active.

Am i done?, looking on the manual, there are two methods, Trunk group operation using LACP and Trunk group operation using the "trunk" option.

Current switches already have VLAN1 being used for data, vlan50 for voice and vlan3 for management.

If i need to change it to LACP, can the use of vlans stay the same or does vlan1 need to go?

show trunk  displays ports 1 and 2 in Trunk Trk1
show trunk trk1   returns  module not present for port or invalid port : trk1
Not sure if that means something is wrong?

Hello Experts,

I am trying to access an IP Video camera on my private network from the Internet.

1. I have verified the camera can be accessed via a web page from the private LAN.
2. My IP camera is currently using port 80
3. I set up port forwarding in my DSL modem to access the IP Camera IP via Port 80.
4. I can verify the port is open using canyouseeme.org (If I remove the port forward in my modem, the route from canyouseeme.org fails)

When I try to access the IP camera from the internet by typing http//"MyPublicIP:80" the the browser times out.

So I believe I have port 80 open but I cannot access the IP camera on my local LAN from the Internet.

Does anyone know what may be going on here?

I have a network with the range 10.4.240.x to 10.4.243.x. I should be able to reach / ping any device on the network from any address. For the most part, I can. The servers /printers and other resources are all on the 10.4.240.x subnet. From any other subnet I can ping the servers and printers and access them fine. What I can't ping or access is the routers gateway on 10.4.240.125. It does not respond to a ping request and isn't accessible. Any computer on anything other than 10.4.240.x does not have internet access because the device can not see the gateway. I have no idea why this one ip address isn't responding.

I'd appreciate any ideas to try to resolve this problem.

Regards,

Bill
