We are building a mobile application where the user uses a mobile application to send a message to the assistant that wants his help. The user should be able to see on the sticker his position and then after entering it, it press the button to "Get Assistance". Now what we want to prevent is a user going home, open the application, then  enter the position again and press the button "Get Assistance".  This is going to be a multi location application and we can not put too many constraints. We need an idea that is practical.

I I need to build a client app on Windows Phone 8.1 to communicate with a remote SQL database.
Building a local database on the device is supported but I can't find information on how to connect the app to a remote database. I need to implement the standard CRUD operations on a database on a remote SQL Server from the mobile device.

Hi,

I need a solution to sync contacts of my live account between outlook 2013(client) and webmail and phone.
We cannot synchronize manually every time I add a contact.
Is there any solution?

Hi all,

I am looking into a Windows CE 7.0 / 2013 SBC at the moment.
Looking through the MS documentation it appears that they still do not support the host on the device.
I used a Windows CE 5.0 SBC in the past and used a port for VNC to run on this.

What are the options if I wish to get the equivalent to an RDP connection to the SBC from for example Windows 7 / 8 machine? This would be via Ethernet.

I'm not 100% certain if I will end up using Compact 7 or 2013 as yet...

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

How can I remotely control my Nokia Lumia 630 (Windows Phone 8.1)  FROM my Windows 8.1 PC? Is it possible to enable Remote Desktop or Remote Assistance on Windows Phone 8.1 device to be controlled over internet from Windows PC?
Is seems that TeamViewer can Control remote computers using your Windows 8/Windows RT/Windows Phone 8 device, but I need the opposite functionality! Thank you for any suggestion.

I have a need to deploy Microsoft Tablets to students. I am not sure if they will be issued the Tablet for use for the semester or if they will remain in the class room and be handed out for each class. I am thinking the latter. We plan to also use Office 365 for the students.

Is there a way to setup a Windows RT Tablet so it is generalized each time a new student picks it up? I am worried about students saving their password and having other students have access to their work on Office 365.

 Thank you,

Sometimes I have the phone number and I need to match it with a name and last name and verify the location, sometimes I have the name and the last name and I need to match it with the phone number.

any of our mobile devices can not get emails when they are connected to our internal wireless network,
when the are with an outside network (carrier), then they can send/receive emails.
i already created dns zone with our domain name pointing mail.domain.net to our internal exchange server.

When deriving a ViewModel from Galasoft MVVMLight's ViewModelBase or Prism's BindableBase the SuspensionManager will fail because the both ViewModelBase and BindableBase are not serialisable.
Is there away around this so that the contract serialiser will work or are the only options to either ditch the base class or rework the SuspensionManager to use JSON deserialization instead?
Are there any good code samples kicking around that reworks the SuspensionManager?

I have this mobile phone which I bought from a ultra Mobile agent.  Once in a while the battery goes dead, and despite charging it again 100%, I still cannot seem to power on.  I have tried everything like removing the covers, the battery, waiting a minute then reinserting it again, then pressing the power again, but the power still does not come up.  I usually have to remove the casing as i think the tight fit casing was blocking the control buttons, but still this does not help.  Can the gurus please suggest a fix.  Thank u.

I have an AngularJS based Mobile web application. That works fine in iPhone/Galaxy. However it behaves differently in Windows 8  Phone . In Windows Mobile, we can move forward easily to 2-3 pages but when the phone's hardware back button is touched, it does not go to previous screen, instead it goes to the first login page. Why is this behavior and how do I fix it?

Posted here first, but no answer yet...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaCentre-Desktops-Home-Servers/How-to-enable-Hyper-V/td-p/1832475.  It seems to me that I do have Hyper-v installed, else how else could I have turned it on in Windows features, and got the Hyper-v management console to run from the control panel (no matter that coreinfo shows that EPT is not available (yes or no ?).

I have attached images of the errors that happen when I either try to execute the Visual Studio Windows phone project, and, when I use Hyper-V manager...Error when in Hyper-v managerError when in Visual Studio 2013.

I have increased my memory page size (although I have no indication that that is the error).  There is really no more information in the Event logs, than is shows in the attached images.  I have 16Gb of memory, I7.

I have spent a couple of days on this, and have no idea of what the problem is.

We have a number of pocket PC's (Motorola PPT8846).  And we use them during inventory, but then store them away until the next inventory.  The batteries drain and the pocket pc's default back to factory settings  in between inventories.  We're looking for a way where we can save the settings during a hard reset/battery drain/battery removal.  The main settings we're concerned with are removing all the start menu and programs menu items and having a couple of business specific apps only in those areas.  Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

All the emails that I send via my live.com account (xyz@live.com) are being delayed 24-48 hours.  This started happening about 3 weeks ago.  If I send an email via my earthlink.net or outlook.com paths, the emails go through immediately.  This problem is only affecting my live.com address.  It happens on both my phone and my desktop.  I’ve been sending a bunch of test emails to see how long it takes to be delivered.  Lately, I’ve noticed that all of my test emails go through in the middle of the day (between noon and 2), and then, they stop for another 24 hours.  (In other words, I receive all of my test emails all at once, and then nothing again for 24 hours.  Weird.)  I receive the “postmaster delayed email” message about 12 hours after I’ve sent the message.

I’ve gone online in the Microsoft support communities and this is a problem that seems to pop up regularly, if not widespread.

The reason it’s a big problem, is that my phone defaults to send replies via the live.com address.  If I “reply” to a message on my phone, that message will not be delivered for more than 24 hours.

Hi:

I'm new to the use of a Camera in the Windows operating system.
I've been tasked with writing a library to interact with a windows based camera.

What is the best api/library/pattern/solution for interacting with a camera in a windows environment?

Ideally, we'd like something that is common across Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Surface, and Windows based
phones (tablets?).

Is there something that is consistent across all the windows flavours mentioned above?

I've seen some mention of "Media Foundation" in several posts.
Is that the current standard for camera/video interaction?

Thanks,
JohnB

Self signed certificate on the sbs server was about to expire.
I renewed it with the "fix network" tool, and it is updated ok.
However now my phone will not sync.
I tested with a second phone and if I delete and add the account again it works fine - however this is not convenient for lots of staff / accounts.
I have sent the new certificate to the phone via another account and installed it, and I can browse the OWA site ok from the phone.
I notice there appears to be no way to delete the old certificate from the phone.

I have read on some sites that the phone should have the root cert not the leaf.
I understand the root cert is the one created in the public\downloads folder on the server - which I have sent to the phone.

Hi all,
I have this code from Microsoft to create an xml file; but I can't find a way to write it to a file to my Windows Phone 8.1 project.

Dim sb As StringBuilder = New StringBuilder()
Dim xws As XmlWriterSettings = New XmlWriterSettings()
xws.OmitXmlDeclaration = True
xws.Indent = True

Using xw = XmlWriter.Create(sb, xws)
    Dim doc As XDocument = New XDocument(<Child><GrandChild>some content</GrandChild></Child>)
    doc.WriteTo(xw)
End Using

Console.WriteLine(sb.ToString())

Ok, first question so be gentle.

I have been doing break/fix for about 10 years but know I want to build an app.  I've looked and searched the internet for "where to start" or "what to use", but there seems to be too much info out there.

I want to build an app that will work on a desktop/laptop and mobile devices (windows phone, iPhone, iPads,etc).  The problem I keep running into is basically "what is step 1". What tools do I need? Do I build it like a webpage using html5, css3, and javascript?

Do I use one of many tools that say "no programming experience needed".  I don't mind learning what i need to do but I need to know what to learn.  The app needs to sync across the above platforms.  The app can be simple for now just so I get the workflow down, then I can move into more specific questions when I'm ready to move forward.

I do know from reading several articles that I just don't want a mobile version of a web page.  It will probably need a database and calender option to make to do lists and keep track of things.  But that may be to ambitious for now.

Thank You

Hi all,
I'm trying t open an XML file in WP8.1 dev environment (VS2013).
I can open an xml file that has been added to my project.  great for testing....
I am creating a simple xml, hard coding the file, first on the phone than trying to open it.  I keep getting errors that it can't open the file.  Don't know what i'm missing here.

An exception of type 'System.Xml.XmlException' occurred in SYSTEM.XML.NI.DLL but was not handled in user code

Additional information: Cannot open 'file:///C:/Data/SharedData/PhoneTools/AppxLayouts/9366RuSoftInformationTech.RuSafeVS.Debug_AnyCPU.John/RuSafe/RuSafe 102.xml'. The Uri parameter must be a file system relative path.

Hi all,
I have been trying to figure out how to create an XML document.  I've found many code examples; but don't see where the file is specified in any of them.  Below is the code I have so far and have a file variable (string) but can't seem to fit it in anyplace.

Dim XMLDOC$ = txtSAFE_NAME.Text & ".xml"

        ' Create XmlWriterSettings.
        Dim settings As XmlWriterSettings = New XmlWriterSettings()
        settings.Indent = True
        Dim sw As New StringWriter()

        ' Create XmlWriter.
        Using writer As XmlWriter = XmlWriter.Create(sw, settings)
            writer.WriteStartDocument()
            writer.WriteStartElement("RUSAFE") ' Root.

            writer.WriteStartElement("INFOTBL")
            writer.WriteElementString("FILE_NAME", txtSAFE_NAME.Text.ToString)

            writer.WriteEndElement()

            ' End document.
            writer.WriteEndElement()
            writer.WriteEndDocument()

            writer.Flush()

            Dim output As String = sw.ToString()

        End Using

Hello and thank you for reading my post.

I have a project coming up that needs to take a working web site and implement the ability to support mobile device such as iPhone, Android, Windows Phone and tablets.

I need to know where to start. If there are tools such as Xamarin which would handle cross platform design that would do most of them if not all using such a single tool and that is easy to deal with.

All comments are welcomed and thanks again.
