Windows Phone (WP) is a family of mobile operating systems developed for smartphones as the replacement successor to Windows Mobile and Zune.  Windows Phone features a new user interface derived from Metro design language. Windows 10 Mobile succeeded Windows Phone 8.1 and emphasizes a larger amount of integration and unification with its PC counterpart—including a new, unified application ecosystem, along with an expansion of its scope to include small-screened tablets.

Hello and thank you for reading my post.

I have a project coming up that needs to take a working web site and implement the ability to support mobile device such as iPhone, Android, Windows Phone and tablets.

I need to know where to start. If there are tools such as Xamarin which would handle cross platform design that would do most of them if not all using such a single tool and that is easy to deal with.

All comments are welcomed and thanks again.

HI all,
I'm trying to write an windows phone app for 8.1 and need to access OneDrive to open and save files.
I've read a lot and I'm stuck in the begining with the Live SDK.  I installed it but don't see it in my project.  I tried puting IMPORTS MICROSOFT.LIVE in; but the namespace is not found.

We have an iOS app written using XCode. The app works but it is limited to iPhones so we need to somehow port the code to C# (IF POSSIBLE). We are using Xamarin inside Visual Studio 2013 in order to reach all 3 platforms (iOS, Android, Windows Phone). Anyone done this? I realize there will still be a lot of work to do even after somehow getting the code to port.

Hello

I am trying to use the ChineseLunisolarCalendar procedure which should be defined in the System.Globalization class using Visual Studio 2013 c# project, but I can't seem to get it to recognise the ChineseLunisolarCalendar reference within the System.Globalization namespace, any ideas on what I might be missing?
see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/network/system.globalization(v=vs.95)
and
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/network/system.globalization.chineselunisolarcalendar(v=vs.95)

The error I get is as follows:

Error      1      The type or namespace name 'ChineseLunisolarCalendar' does not exist in the namespace 'System.Globalization' (are you missing an assembly reference?

Thanks for any feedback you might be able to provide.

Can an access database be converted to work on a windows phone? Access 2002 with runtime

Our company uses SBS 2011 and we have 2 Nokia Lumia 920 phones connected to our internal corporate wifi router to access the Exchange emails and to be able to browse the internet using wifi.

Everything was working fine with the phones until we had an issue with the server losing its settings (still not sure why that happened).  I re-ran the SBS 'Fix Internet' wizard which got the server working again.

Now the phones can't connect to Exchange to get email through the wifi provided by the router.  If we disable wifi and use 4G, it finds exchange fine and downloads the email.

My thoughts are either it's one of these issues:
1. The self-signed certificate was re-generated on SBS and is now not matching what is set up on the Windows Phone.

2. The DNS is missing a record which would help the phones locate the Exchange server from inside the network .  However, the workstations that use the Outlook client on the same network (but not through wifi) can find Exchange fine.  So it is specific to the wifi router and the SBS 2011 box and the phones...

I have no idea how to isolate the issue or how to fix it.  I thought if I could add another DNS rule (as a workaround) which would help the phones locate the Exchange box from the inside, that might be a quick fix and confirm the issue is related to a DNS issue.  But I'm not sure how and where to do that in the DNS settings.  Would it be a forwarding rule, a reverse lookup rule etc.

Help!

Hi all,
I'm trying to simply navigate to another page.
This is WP8.1 OS, Visual Studio 2013

The code referenced available is the following....
Me.Frame.Navigate(TypeOf (page_sf))

The compilier is telling me that I need "IS" after this; but no other examples found reference this approach, and I don't know what it wants after the "IS"

Me.Frame.Navigate(TypeOf (page_sf) Is )

Hi all,
I'm trying to create a Windows Phone Application in VS2013.
It seems every reference to a object from any library/Namespace I get an error that the object is not a member when it should be.  I add the imports for the namespace and objects and nothing helps.  If I create a an Windows App, non Windows Phone App, and use the same namespaces it works fine.

For instance.....
Imports System.Reflection

Public Function GetVersionNumber( as String)

Dim assem as Assembly = Assembley.GetEntryAssembly
...
...
end function

Assembley.GetEntryAssembly errors because the "GetEntryAssembly" is not a member.

I tried using different Framework versions also; without any luck.

I've just upgraded my Lumia 920 to Windows Phone 8.1. There have been changes in the People Hub. Where is the Company field. Is it now the one called Office Location. This seems weird?

Hi, this template is supposed to be responsive, but it looks terrible in any of the mobile emulators. Can you check it in your smartphone and report on how it looks? Thanks- I'll split the points between the first 4 answers.

I cannot seem to find a way to change the DNS IP associated with my WiFi on my Windows Phone 8.1 devices.  It is easy to do on iOS but doesn't appear as evident on Windows Phone 8.1.
I have accessed Settings > Wi-Fi and pressed and hold the specific Wi-Fi network to generate menu list.  [Edit, Disconnect, Delete]  I choose 'Edit' and can see the DNS IP but it is not editable.
Does anyone know of a way to edit the IP of DNS on a Windows 8.1 Phone?

Thank You

On the Purchase Home Antivirus and Security Software from ESET, it says
Windows Mobile 6.5, 6.1, 6.0 and 5.0.
However, when I called then the day, I thought they said it was supported (and it could just be a mistype).

I have a
Windows Phone HTC Windows Phone 8X by HTC
T-Mobile Carrier US
Windows 8® 8.0
OS Version: 8.0.10327.0
Firmware Reversion Number: 3030.0.34101.531
Hardware  Software Version: 1.17b.32.19.14_15.62b.32.19
Radio Hardware Version: 3.36.0.D4
Bootloader Version: 0.0.3030.0(173542)
CHIP SOC Addess: 8260A

I am hoping that is all that is needed (i.e. IMEI, etc)  I basically need a cell number to enter so that I can find the phone, I knew I should have gotten eSet Windows Mobile when we renewed 6 weeks ago.  On Purchase Home Antivirus and Security Software from ESET, a two year license is $7.34 ( and then I click that radio button it says
Windows Mobile 6.5, 6.1, 6.0 and 5.0
The total was $27.84.  But then I went thru it again and it was $7.34 (it had been less than 2 months for that renewal).  I read that you get the discount as long as you re-new within 2 months.
Since eSet is in the Windows Mobile 8 store, I would imagine that it is supported.  I am pretty sure that I had it on there the last time.

I am ready to buy, it is in my cart for the $7.43 - but waiting on confirmation from some experts that hopefully have this installed / working on Windows Mobile 8.

Thank you!
Corey

I have a XAML page with code behind that works fine... Until I wrap the code behind in a Namespace.  Then I get Initialize Component not declared.

I've encountered this before when copying in code from another project, but it's usually fixed by ensuring the XAML x:Class matched the Private Partial Sub name in code behind.

Any ideas?

With so many gadgets I'm getting a bit sick of alll the charging cables, and the losing them when you need them
So does anyone now if the Micro USB cables operate the same across devices for charging as this would eliminate quite a few cables.
I'd try plugging one in but don't want to blow anything up.

Or can you recommend a one for all (within Europe UK plug)
Off the top of my head I have speakers, Windows Phone, Logitech Remote and wireless headphones that all use micro USB
Is there an adaptor for the Galaxy Tab to micro usb?

After a bit of reading any micro usb should be ok

Can I share/synch contacts with a subset of users with Exchange 2010? For instance, there is a marketing group of users - market1, market2 and market3.  What if anything can I do so that when market1 adds a contact it updates the contacts of market2 and market 3 and vice versas for all of them. I don't want the other users in the organization to have their contacts updated.

Cleaning up a Win SBS 2008 server running Exchange 2007 SP3. A few years ago we had some Windows Phones specifically to have what we thought would be a more robust Exchange/Outlook client on mobile. We're now using all Android mobile devices - phones and tablets. I noticed WMDSync.exe is still in my startup configuration.

If I don't have any Windows Mobile devices, do I want/need this running on my server? Do I want/need it on my server even if I did have Windows Phone devices since I would never plug one directly into the server, but only to workstations?

Our company currently is using a number of compact computers like Motorola/Symbol MC71 and similar. They all have Windows Mobile 6 and run several applications that we have created using Visual Studio 2008. These applications scan some barcodes and then perform operations on our database, to which they reach out using wireless network. Inventory control and shipping, mostly.

However, Microsoft has discontinued support of Windows Mobile platform in later versions of Visual Studio, in favor of Windows Phone platform. But Windows Phone is not company-oriented device, it's primarily for consumer market, and for instance, the telephone function is not needed at all.

I see that even today barcodesinc is selling windows mobile-based devices, which probably means that new applications are still being created in the development tool that is already 6 years old.

So I was wondering, is there something coming to replace it?

I have a grid and each cell holds an image.  Images are uniquely named such as "C1R1" would be the image in the first column and first row.

I need to randomly select and get a reference to one of the images in VB.net

I had the following question on the 70-341 Exam and was curious to what the answer might be.

You install a Mailbox Server role and Client Access role on a new server ex1.contoso.com

You open all the ports required to access its services from the internet, and connect successfully.

You need to identify which types of Exchange Server clients will connect WITHOUT any further configuration.

A Internal OWA  (works)
B Android using ActiveSync (also works)
C Windows Phone 7 using ActiveSync (worked fine too)
D Windows RT Mail App. ( not idea)

Now I think the answer is A, Internal OWA.

However I did set the External URIs for Activesync and B and C work too.

I didn't have to run a command-let to turn it "ON" or anything else, to me that
means it works out of the box.

I had to do was accept the security alerts on the android phone.

Its such a poor question, as it did not specific (further configuration of what exactly.
I assume it refers to Exchange and not the phone.

Any Idea's

Cheers.
