I need to upgrade the Exchange Admin tools from CU 12 to CU 14  on 15 exchange servers ( 2016) in DAG

i am following this article.

https://practical365.com/exchange-server/installing-cumulative-updates-on-exchange-server-2016/

Once I run StartDagServerMaintenance.ps1 script and perform the following tasks:

•Sets the value of the DatabaseCopyAutoActivationPolicy parameter on the DAG member to Blocked, which prevents any database copies from being activated on the server.

•Pauses the node in the cluster, which prevents the node from being and becoming the PAM.

•Moves all active databases currently hosted on the DAG member to other DAG members.

do i need to do these steps below on each exchange server.

Issues troubleshooting URL Rewrite in IIS on Windows 2008 R2, getting a 502.3 error.  This error seems to indicate a possible issue with certificates.  However; I am not understanding what that would be.  (And to address 2008, this is temporary as we are currently rebuilding the servers that host this application in 2019, but will be some time before we can move there and this application needs to be in production before then.)

We are able to get a redirect to work but rewrite fails.

This is working correctly on a Windows 2016 server with the same configuration.  So I'm not sure if we have an OS/IIS Version level issue or if there is something else going on.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this or any other ideas?  The overall Rewrite settings applet seem to contain very little in terms of options or robustness.  The developer thinks its related to starting on a public url such as www.mywebsite.com which rewrites to an internal application server which is servce.domain.local.

Any other thoughts are appreciated.

Forest and Domain Functional level in Server 2019

This is more an advice question than a problem.
I just upgraded my old Windows 2008 servers to a new Windows 2019 server.  I made a list of things that I had to do, but probably due to old age, I forgot about updating the Forest and Domain Functional levels.
The new server now has a functional level of 2008.
This doesn't seem to cause any problems except for things like not being able to enable the "AD recycle bin".

My question is:  Since I have already put the server in production, is there going to be any problem with updating the functional levels?  Also, does it require a reboot after updating?

I just want to get some expert advice so I don't dig myself into a hole.

Thanks
Ken

Hi,

I am looking for some help with planning the replacement of SBS 2011.  I see a few threads on the topic already, but they seem to cover a transition to Essentials.

I'm already looking at 30 users with potential to grow, so I think we have already outgrown the 'small business' part of SBS.

I won't pretend to know much of anything about licensing/server features/etc., and don't stay current with M$ release 'news', so starting from scratch would be an accurate statement.

That said, I need to make sure I can replace/replicate the current functions of 2011.

No doubt this list is far from complete, but these are the things I know it does that I'm worried about replacing (assuming DC/AD roles are covered no matter what route I go)...

  • On-site Exchange server
  • OWA features for rdp
  • Backups
  • File storage
  • Everything else I don't have the foresight to realize I'm losing

We don't use SP and don't have an intranet...so two things off the list of worries.

I know O365 is an option to replace the on-site exchange server, but I have my concerns about going cloud...namely cost effectiveness, security, and data retention.  I also don't know if it's a seamless transition in terms of features available to Outlook users.

As for the OWA side, we have a few users that remote in frequently from home.  I'm not really sure what …

Hi, I'm in the process of decommissioning a 2008 DC with KMS installed, I know the KMS service is seperate from AD DS and I believe that the decom should not affect KMS but I just wanted to check to see if anyone has had experience with this before going ahead,

Will the KMS service be afected during or after the decom.

thanks in advance.

I'm trying to demote a server 2008 domain controller and it says, you can't proceed because there is Active Directory certificate authority is installed. This is one remote site domain controller out of 5. How can I demote this domain controller? I'm reluctant to uninstall AD certificate service, as it might create problems?

Can file shredders (like LSoft ZDelete) properly shred files on a logical drive on a Windows Server 2008 R2 system using a Hardware Raid controller (Dell PERC H700) configured for Raid 5?

I'm not looking to Wipe the whole drive(s), I want to shred individual files and have the system still work.

If not all shredders will work properly on logical raid drives, does anyone know one that will?

got a windows server 2012 . hyper v - running 7 vm
got 2 disks in hyper v “c &d”

all vm vhdx are in “d” drive
but for 3 vm- vmrs&vmcx are in “c” drive.
c drive space is too low. vmrs file has filled up close to 50gb. ( I know they are all ram sizes of each vm)

how do I move vmrs&vmcx files to “d” drive ???
and second question - how do I find out which vmrs file is associated with which vm ??

So I inherited 2 CA servers, one is root that remains powered off and another that handles issuing.  They are both 2008r2. So just hoping to clarify my steps to see if i'm missing anything.

Build two new 2019 servers
power on root, backup ca and keys and registry
backup ca, keys and reg on issuing ca
remove roles from both and rename/ip
add 2 new servers to AD with both same names/ip as old servers
install CA roll on both
restore backups/reg

am I missing anything?

Looking to migrate my last 2008r2 file server to 2019. I've done quite a few in the past and for the most part worked great.  My biggest hurdle this time i didn't have with rest is this is a server that is accessed 24/7. Does SMS keep updating changed files during migration of data?

Hello I have a Server 2008 R2 with IE 11. IE 11 must access https://www.tempomortgage.com and I get the following error:

This page can’t be displayed
Turn on TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 in Advanced settings and try connecting to https://www.tempomortgage.com again. If this error persists, it is possible that this site uses an unsupported protocol or cipher suite such as RC4 (link for the details), which is not considered secure. Please contact your site administrator.

Although I can browse that site with Chrome and Firefox fine installed on the server

I have applied the right ciphers, IE Sec Settings, Rebooted server and nothing

See attachment for the respective version and settings

Hi all,

Ahead of the Microsoft update in March forcing ldap hardening, I have a few questions

1.Is the update actually making any direct changes (enforcing the settings), or is it simply making the necessary changes but the actual applying of the settings will happen later in the year in another update?

2. We are currently in the process of moving to ldaps however I have read that this may be not be necessary and that we can force the ldap signing settings via gpo and this will suffice (along with channel binding). Is this correct?

3. If we wanted to delay the changes I am assuming I simply don’t install the march update until we are ready on the DC’s. What about all the windows clients in the network. Will these simply carry on working even if the update is applied to them?

Cheers,
Paul
