Windows Vista is an operating system created by Microsoft as the successor to Windows XP. It was intended for PCs, workstations and laptops, and shares the same code base as its successor, Windows 7. New features included an updated graphical user interface (GUI) and visual style dubbed Aero, a new search component called Windows Search, redesigned networking, audio, print and display subsystems, and new multimedia tools. Vista aimed to increase the level of communication between machines on a home network, using peer-to-peer technology to simplify sharing files and media between computers and devices. Windows Vista included version 3.0 of the .NET Framework, allowing software developers to write applications without traditional Windows APIs.

I bought a really top of the line Laptop 6 1/2 years ago. It is an HP Pavilion DV7-2185dx. It has Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q9000 @ 2.0 GHZ with 6 GIG of RAM and 500 GIG HD. Really nice little box.

My Question: Should I just upgrade to Windows 7 or 8. I know it is capable of upgrade to Windows 7. Not sure if it can upgrade to 8. What would this system be comparable to in todays technology and market?? Example what processor or processors??

I need to purchase a new Laptop. This one has been sitting with Vista on it in my office. Any suggestions? Thank you for your help.

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-2185dx Laptop. I bought it right when Windows 7 came out. I had the option to upgrade to Windows 7 for free. I never did the free upgrade. The system is a work horse and I want to up upgrade it to windows 7. I have a full stand alone copy of windows 7 I can install on it. I was wondering what the best path would be to accomplish the final goal of the laptop with Windows 7 working with all the current drivers. I could order the orginal install disks (Vista then purchase the upgrade) or would it be better to just to a clean install on the system with my Windows 7? Which ever path, how would I get all the drivers needed for the system if I use Windows 7 install disk? I know it does have some ability to plug and play. Thank you. Oh yes it is a quad core with 6 gig of ram and 500 gig hard drive. Its processors are Intel Core Q900 2.0 ghz.

Hello in urgency to delete extra files from my laptop because the hard drive is really small 60GB and has only 3GB left.
My friend John recommended the use of this great software which helped me to identify what is taking so much space in my hard drive, but now I don't know how to use it and how to delete. Actually I don't know what to delete due to the fact that as you can see from the pics the "windows files" are 19.8GB but I also know that if I delete the wrong files I will kill the Computer.

I am using Vista the total size of the Hard Dive is 68GB and I only have 1.71GB free :( it will crash soon!!

How can I proceed ? Who can help me and tell me what folder I can comfortably delete please according to these pictures ?

Thank you

We got Windows updates last night, Vista home basic.

Now all windows are white. See the image and the bottom is why as well as the background on the start menu. We think the color was a darker gray before last night updates.

System restore can be done but we lose the updates. So that is not the solution.

Are there settings to change the background colors. White is too bright.

I have put red dots on all areas where the color has changed from "we think" a darker gray to a light gray now almost white.

Hi

On my MacBook Pro OS X 10.9.5. I tried to upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 8. Now I have both Windows systems available, and both run without problems. Eventually I want to delete Vista, but before I do so I need  to transfer two applications (MacAffee AntiVirus and Atlas.ti) to Windows 8, so I can make sure they run on Windows 8 before I delete Vista. (How) can this be done? Should this have been done during the installation already?

Thanks for hints!

A customer has a laptop that is running Windows Vista.  The computer appears to connect to the Verizon FiOS (Actiontec) router, but does not connect to the Internet. On investigation, I found that the computer can't connect to anything on the network.  I cannot ping the router from that laptop, and the connection test from the router also fails.

I connected another laptop without a problem.  I took the failing laptop to another location and was able to connect without any problem.

I have run SFC on the laptop, reset the router, removed and re-established the connection, turned off the firewall, uninstalled and redetected the wireless adapter, and uninstalled the HP Wireless Assistant. Nothing as helped.

What do I have to do to  connect this laptop to the Internet through this router?

We have Windows Vista and trying to print preview a Turbo Tax form. The attempted viewing tries to open in Microsoft Picture Manager and won't open. How do we change the default program from MPM to what we think needs to be Adobe Acrobat since there is an option to save the form as a PDF.

Helping a friend who has a desktop system with Vista OS and the display died.  Then each reboot attempt failed.  He took out the hard drive and the graphics card to have them checked out.  Graphics card is fine, hard drive is being checked.

Assuming they can get the hard drive fixed/working again; what is the best, safest way to migrate all user settings, etc., into a new HP system and not lose key settings.  He's considering an HP system 500 with Windows 7 Professional (does NOT like W/8).  Some time ago, used Windows Easy Transfer; is that the best way to go?

Thanks for your help.

Hi all,
I have 3 XP computers that I have virtualised. I now need to get them to Windows 7. We have applications installed that nobody understands how they got installed, the source code\ setup programs are gone and so we can't re-install. I know I cannot directly upgrade to Win 7 but can jump to Vista and then to Win7. So my question is in 2 parts.
1. I can't seem to find where I can download Vista so that I can use it temporarily (my XP machines are fully licensed).

2. Is there a tool that can be used that can point at the XP box and rip or copy out the application settings so to be copied or deployed to a Windows 7 box?

Thanks for looking

A computer I am working on has been getting BSOD error messages as well as issues with the keyboard and mouse
BSOD 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0x87906090, 0x87906EDC, 0x8247B7E0)
BSOD 0x00000077 (0xC000000E, 0xC000000E, 0x00000000, 0x0BAE4000)
Since I was working remotely I went over to see what was going on and got
BSOD-BugCode_UPS_Drive 0x000000FE (0x00000008, etc)

USB connection (Printer) has been removed and as well as the Ethernet connection was disconnected but the computer is still having issues the same issues.

She told me the mouse and keyboard would stop working.  She installed new batteries with no change.  The keyboard and mouse are wireless with the wireless adapter built in to the computer.  I reconnected them and noticed the red light that shows connection would blink even when not functioning.  The computer is not frozen as we can use the touch screen to make selections.  Eventually a BSOD occurs.

Slight PUP infection ran MBAM and SAS but having a hard time staying connected to run more.

Attached are a screen shots of a Windows Recovery error message and the computer's Performance rating.

I need assistance with which direction to go first as the computer is difficult to stay connected to.

Thank you,
Mags

We have a Windows Vista Dell Laptop in for repair.  It was infected with virus, pop ups and adware.  Customer had no antivirus on the computer.  We've performed the following to get it cleaned up and resolved the main issues it was brought in for:

Control Panel - Uninstalled unwanted/problem programs
Regedit and MsConfig - Cleaned and removed problem files
Performed Windows Updates
Update Adobe and Java
Installed Kaspersky Antivirus 2015 (Full Version -not free), activated, updated and scanned.
Installed Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT) and scanned.

Kaspersky and MSRT scans found and fixed several things.

We are going on the internet without pop ups.  However, Internet Explorer has the following Add-ons that we cannot Disable or Remove within Manage Add-ons:

SalesChecker
ExtrausShopper
ExtraSehoppper
PriceDownloader
RoyalShopperApp

We tried Reset and Restore defaults in IE9.
We uninstall IE9 and went back to IE8,
We tried  to disable the add-on via registry.

We appreciate any thoughts on how to Remove IE Add-ons.

Hi

I have a customer who has a problem with two clients (Windows 7).  The Magnifier and On-Screen Keyboard is starting on those both clients each login. How can I disable it? All other 561 client’s are not having this problem.

I checked with Auto start, Ease of Access Center and Magnifier + On-Screen Keyboard is disabled. Also, these did not help:

Many thanks in advance

Oh well, Cleartype did not fix the issue.

When trying the other solution of repair to Office we are prompted for a disc.
Is that the Office 2007 disc?
And does it matter that these text irregularities occur when using a non Microsoft browser?

We tried the Cleartype link because it seemed the easiest solution but it failed to solve the problem. Then again we have not rebooted but the installation did not say we needed to.

Not aware of a file validation add-in disc.

It's not just typed text with the keyboard, it is also the appearance of text on some websites using Chrome or FF. See the second image.

An old tablet has a 300G HDD.  Years ago I partitioned it into C: and D:.  Now I want to get rid of D: and have all of the disk space back into C:.  All instructions I have read say to just right click on D: within Disk Management and select "Delete volume", but it is greyed out.
