Windows Vista is an operating system created by Microsoft as the successor to Windows XP. It was intended for PCs, workstations and laptops, and shares the same code base as its successor, Windows 7. New features included an updated graphical user interface (GUI) and visual style dubbed Aero, a new search component called Windows Search, redesigned networking, audio, print and display subsystems, and new multimedia tools. Vista aimed to increase the level of communication between machines on a home network, using peer-to-peer technology to simplify sharing files and media between computers and devices. Windows Vista included version 3.0 of the .NET Framework, allowing software developers to write applications without traditional Windows APIs.

Goodbye Windows Vista! Today is the day Microsoft has finally ended support for it. Considering Vista came out in November 2006, that's almost a 10 and half year lifespan. Seems like a pretty good run! Personally, I never really liked Vista very much and was quite happy when Windows 7 came out. Vista always sort of felt like the beta test for 7...

Any of you going to miss it? Or are you thinking "good-riddance"?

Nice! Yeah, I imagine having a new system that came out with Vista would have been much better. I was upgrading an older system, and yep, it was a Dell. These days though, my Windows system is one I built myself. At least this way I've got a much better understanding of the various parts :-)

And you're very right that Vista did introduce a lot of pivotal enhancements for Windows! I was just checking out the Wikipedia page for it and was reminded of how it introduced the Aero GUI, instant search, Windows Defender... tons of good things.
