Word Processors

A word processor is an electronic device or computer software application that performs the task of composition, editing, formatting, and sometimes printing of documents. Most modern word processors use a graphical user interface, and most are powerful systems consisting of one or more programs that can produce any arbitrary combination of images, graphics and text, the latter handled with type-setting capability. Typical features of a modern word processor include font application, spell checking, grammar checking, a built-in thesaurus, automatic text correction, Web integration, and HTML exporting, among others.

I have a user that is working in Word 2010. When she is trying to work in a certain document, she gets this giant black box across the page. We have tried to do an office repair but it did not help.  I also checked that she doesn't have any type of malware on her PC. I have also updated the chip set and video drivers but nothing has helped.

The user put the file onto another computer to see if it worked there and got the same issue. It also happens when she tries to copy the text out and put it into a new word document. If she keeps the page numbers blank and doesn't use track edits, it seems to be okay.

Does anyone know what could cause this?

Hi

I'm wondering if anyone has seen this is Word 2013 before. Text has been copied and pasted from a indesign. The font is all the same however certain words are displaying in a different font.

Thanks

I miss a word. It is somewhere deep in my mind and I cannot take it out.
I need a brainstorming to help me to take it out and remember it.
To increase the confusion, I am not so sure if I will be able to define it properly.
Here it is:
-      How do you name/call a person/individual who represents a group, having the same characteristics?
-      When you look at that individual, you see trough/in that person all the others. Like a model, a special type. Maybe is a word related with “type”, maybe sounds as genotype, maybe in Latin.
-      Stereotype is too banal, ordinary and has not a nice connotation.
-      Archetype sounds better, but for me seems that involves something ancient or something initial that was first time.
-      I need the word to express a common set of problems and values. I would like to apply this word or expression to describe a family in needs, which in fact is one family out of thousands in the same situations with the same needs and problems and values. The description would be used to designate all the other families using the name of that representative family.
-      What is that word or expression?
Any other suggestion is welcome.

What do the +Body and +heading entries signify?  Why don't they specify a particular font?/size/etc.?

I have a Word doc for my book but urgently need an EPUB version to go digital.

What options do I have?

I hope for an option that give me flexibility as I make updates to the book. For example, if each page is simply artwork, doesn't that mean if I insert a paragraph at the beginning of a chapter that all pages for the rest of that chapter must be laid out again?

I plan to hire someone with skills to do this, but hope to have the software tools to open these files to make final tweaks, like if I find a mis-spelled word.

Then what about using HTML and CSS? It sounds like that would create a "responsive website" type of version for the book. Is this considered EPUB? It does some more easy to support and deploy on different screen sizes, than artwork, which is brittle.

Thanks

My PDF got rejected from IngramSpark since the file does not contain fonts. I created this PDF on Word online, where I chose Save As > PDF.

How do I get fonts into PDF?

Thanks

Hi

We have an employee that we suspect has been doing personal work during work hours. The file is an MS Word document located on a laptop that I have possession of and I can see through the standard properties the date/time of creation and modification. I can see it has a total editing time of 25 hours but I need to try and get some more information like how many times accessed and/or date/time of each opening.

Is anything like this possible?

Thanks

Well, this one's annoying and mysterious. :)

For some cells in a table, the last character onlywraps to the next line.  In the example below, the "T" in format wraps to the second line; however, when I remove the "T" the "A" wraps.

Word Table Wrap
FWIW, my table is configured AUTOFIT TO CONTENTS.

How can I turn off this odd behavior?

Thanks,
Steve

In a Word 2016 DOCX file, I have:

TOC in Word DOCX
When I save as .HTM file, I see:

TOC in HTM
Why is the leading whitespace underlined for "Daily Incident Report"? I turned on the display of paragraph/formatting marks in Word to facilitate debugging this issue but don't see anything obvious.

Thanks,
Steve

Win 8.1 Pro, Office 2013
In Word 2013, trying to link to a file:

Insert > Object.
Object dialog box, Create from File, Browse.
Find a PDF/image/Excel file, click Insert.
In the Object dialog box, link and DO NOT check Display as icon.

This creates an icon (!) not the linked doc display/image.

Might happen for the image to show up, but it mostly doesn't... on all fresh Office 2013 installs I tried this bug is there. Not on older Office. Not on upgrades from older Office.

Microsoft community didn't resolve or workaround this (please see what they tried):
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-word/word-2013-wont-display-any-inserted-pdf-files/76621d09-0ec1-4165-805b-3c379f35df82

Any suggestions?

I see how to Print to a PDF, but that's not what I want. I want to Export to a PDF.

When exported correctly, the proper page size is used and the links for the Table of Contents work. But when I use Print > Save As, the page size is 8.5 x 11. But the link in the T.O.C. do not work, which is why I need Export to work.

Dos this feature exist in Mac Word 2011?

Hi,
On Word 2010, I do not know how I can insert one other document to one table cell within the document?

As you can see, that size is not on my list of choices. How do I set to 8.5" x 5.5"?

Please provide me with the process on how to merge two Word 2013 or Word 2016 documents into one single document.

These two documents have mostly all the same content as each other the only differences are that there are certain sections that exist in one of the Word documents that don't exist within the other.

Hello,

I have a need for Word to be a solution for keeping daily notes on a range of topics, all in one large ongoing document.  Right now I time stamp each note, and I need the notes to stay in chronological order, but I also need the ability to tag/filter/view common topics.

My idea is that I would input a note about topic today, and highlight all that text, tag is as 'Car problems', then perhaps many days of notes on other topics goes by and then I enter another note about more 'Car problems', tag it as such, etc.  Then, later, if I want to view all my notes only about 'Car problems', all other notes are hidden or filtered out.

Is Word able to do this?  Worst case, is there another word processor that does?

Thanks!

I have the Word version just about done and read that Amazon.com supports the upload of the book using Word format.

I have only one graphic in the book, so that should not be a problem. I have a cover that's a PDF and expect that also to be no problem.

Is this a viable way for me to quickly get going with Kindle? Once I am past having is selling on Amazon, I will have the time to start thinking about all other forms of election distribution.

Thanks.

I am just finalizing my book for print and conversion to digital format, and do feel some guidance is useful. I am considering buying "Ape the Book" but that won't get here until Monday.

What are some highlights?

Thanks

I just now saw this website and royalties look crazy.

http://apethebook.com/calculator/#top

My book will cost $17.99 on Kindle and so far the PDF is 451 MB. I can not enter values to get the 70% royalty to show up. Only the 35% royalty. What's that all about? Such a low royalty??

And the Nook seems to pay only 40%!

What is this all about?

Is this why people sell books as a PDF? To keep the entire sale themselves?

Not happy about this first look at ebooks...

Do they really create volume for the book? Regardless, getting only 40% on your own book is pathetic.

I need to support Kindle, Nook and other ebook platforms. But I do not want to purchase any devices.

My book originates on MS Word 2011 and will create a PDF.

Are there simulators I can use to see how my book will look on various E-formats?

this is on a windows7 PC with WordPerfext 7x. the full WordPerfect error message is: Timed Backup. Access Denied - you do not have sufficient rights to save files in this folder.

What folder? how do I turn this off?

Thank you.

I plan to complete a PDF version my book so it can be printed. But I learned there are various technical hurdles to get it running on different hardware devices.

I am a developer and have written app for iPhone, as well as does web development. So do not work about talking over my head.

I need to better understand how to get my book on various devices since it sounds like there are various ways. In some cases, it sounds like Adobe may be needed. In other cases, it sounds like there are technologies which can address multiple platforms.

Before I lift a finger I need to much more fully understand what various approaches I can take as well as limits that each approach has.

Using Adobe scares me as it sounds custom and making custom to me sounds like it it not portable.

Please let me know what devices I should be targeting and well as the various ways to target such a platform. I put "Marketing" into the subject since clearly some efforts have a bigger bang than others, due to the number of devices that can be reached. That kind of an angle would also be appreciated.

Thanks,

I'd like to add an introduction to Section II. Do I just call this a Preface?

I am porting an audio script to be a chapter in a book. And I had placed some details in something I called an Appendix with the thinking the listener could skip ahead to the next track if they did not want to hear the details. They could simply continue listening if they did want to hear those details.

I want to morph that script into the chapter in a book with as little re-write as possible.

Can a chapter have a detail;ed section, like this? Is there any known construct that allows me to do this?

Thanks.
