Why our WSUS 3.2 is not fully snycronizing with MS update as our main update site, I try to  initiate the sync manually and sometimes is will show the status to 10 up to 50 percent and it will stop or become idle, and will show downloading files, I waited for it to finish, and still the status of last syncronization is idle..how to resolve this or how to make it fully sync. thanks in advance.

Hi,

Some time ago I created a new group in WSUS for our laptop accounts.
I noticed recently that the group only contains 16 accounts instead of all laptop accounts in the  designated OU.
I ran wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow as part of our logon script on some of the laptops which also writes date of WSUS files update to a txt file in %windir%.
Now, once wuauclt is run on a client, the computer account appears in correct group in WSUS directory. When I run it on another client though, the previously registered account is "overwritten" by the new account i.e. I run wuauclt on laptop 7 and the account appears in the WSUS directory, then I run wuauclt on laptop 15 and laptop 15's account appears in the directory, but laptop 7's account is gone.

All the while, the number of accounts in my Laptops group in WSUS directory is 16.

If you need any further explanation of the issue, please shout.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Skielve

My Wsus server crashed beyond repair.  I didn't have a backup either - no worries rebuilt it.  My issue is the following:
I've install the software for WSUS and created my groups and changed my GPO.  I've had the server live for about 2 days now, the machines are listed but they have a status report of "not yet reported"  How do I change this? Or is this normal until the next updates come down???

Our WSUS installed on Svr 2008 SP2 has stopped working.  WSUS can not find the database or the sql is stopped.  I have tried to re-install but failed with error

Removal ReportWindows Server Update Services
Windows Server Update Services: Removal failed

<Error>: Attempt to un-install Windows Server Update Services failed with
error code 0x80070643. Fatal error during installation

Can anyone give any advise on hope to remove WSUS or re-install since both activities fail.

If I make a replica of a upstream server, and configure that replica to receive updates from the upstream server, does that make the replica unable to distribute updates to clients? I was doing a transcender exam, and making the branch office wsus server a replica of the upstream wsus server at the main office was according to the question explonation incorrect, since it claimed that it would then not be able to distribute updates to the clients. And why is that? A replica just inherits the setup/groups/etc from the server it is a replica of, it does not mean that the replica becomes a upstream server if it is also replicating a upstream server?

The question also points out that the solution that gives least administrative overhead shoud be choosen. I would assume that would be to make the wsus branch server a replica server of the upstream server in the main office. According to the question explanation, the correct answer is to configure the wsus branch office server as a downstream server. This would be correct, but then this does not enable the lowest possible administrative overhead? I would have to set up the downstream server manually, instead of letting it replicate everything from the main office wsus server?

I installed WSUS not problems, now I'm trying to add a computer and I can't seem to get it working. Fist how exactly do I add the wuau temp?? Not sure I did it correctly. if I did do it correctly followed the rest of the install where you allow updates, and connect to what server ect...
No problems there as far as the config, then I created a group names WSUS UPDAE and added a workstation to it. then I created an OU and added a GPO with above config to it. I still can't see the computer when I open the WSUS to update it.

Please help.
Thanks

Hi,
Here is my issue.
I am taking on monitoring WSUS from a previous already configured set up. I was told it is set up at a central location to push out updates to all domain controllers on the network and then the domain controllers send out alerts to all computers to go to the update website and down load the updates. I am trying to learn as much as I can as quick as I can on this subject but I need some answers soon. I have some pc that under last status report they have a "not yet reported" status. Can anyone point me in the right direction on that one??? Also under 'downstream servers' there is nothing there, which may be completely normal. However how I understood it was that if the main server that pulls the updates from Windows and pushes them to the domain controllers which should be downstream  servers. Unless they aren't set up as replica servers, would that be the reason?? Thank you any help is appreciated!!

Hi,
I am looking to configure WSUS in my domain. Currently I have two sites . One in the UK and one in the Netherlands, I have a one server in NL and it is an additional domain controller. The server in the UK is the first domain controller in my domain. I would like to have wsus updates configured on both servers, so that they control windows updates for both sites. Do I configure one server to control the updates or for network/ bandwidth views both of the servers. Also can someone show me a basic guide how to install wsus? The two sites and linked via a site to site tunnel
Thanks

I have a VMware server with WSUS loaded onto it.The client computers are not being displayed on the Computers page in WSUS Server even it is pointed to WSUS Server. I have linked the GPO to that group which contain two VMware XP machines.
I was able to contact the microsoft server and pull down the updates with no problems.

Can I have load WSUS onto a VMware server 2003 which is fully updated.Would that make a difference.

The VMware XP machine are not cloned machine either. They have differnet SIDS

Any suggestions?

I run wsus.  I have rules set to approve certain classes of updates.  I want to apply 2 updates to all machines, and I know the update numbers, but do not know the "class" that they fall under.  They are not in the classes that I download.  Any suggestions of how I might find out, and get them into wsus for distribution?  They are hotfixes, i believe.

I have just recently installed WSUS 3 with SP1 on a SBS 2003.  All workstations have been found and assigned to groups.  I have syncronized with no issue and have approved almost all of the updates.  The issue I am having is that the download status states that "Updates needing files: 909" and "Downloaded 1274.33 MB of 8481.82 MB".  It has been stuck at these numbers for a few days now.  How do I get it to download the rest of the updates so that I can finish updating?

Thank you,
Joe

A client is running Small Business Server 2003 and WSUS was accidentally installed during the server install.  We want the individual clients to hand the updates through a group policy.  Before I just uninstall WSUS I want to make sure there aren't any steps I need to take before hand or afterwards .  I haven't worked with WSUS before.  Thanks!

In WSUS, Status of computers, I can see some computers have the Status Failed and some have Status of Needed.
I would like to know if this is something critical I should I worry about. If so how do I fix it?

Thanks
