In this video, I will show you HOW TO: Install VMware Tools for Windows on a VMware vSphere Windows virtual machine on a VMware vSphere Hypervisor 8.0 (ESXi 8.0) Host Server, using the VMware Host Client. The virtual machine used in this tutorial have Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022 installed, but this procedure can be used for most modern supported versions of Microsoft Windows.

I am also going to discuss the benefits of using the virtualised VMXNET3 driver versus the Intel E1000E driver, and why you should use it, I also demonstrate the replacement of the E1000E network interface, with the VMXNET3 network interface, as network interfaces are hot plug and play.

1. What is VMware Tools?

VMware Tools is not an optional installation; it's required.

2. Connect to the VMware vSphere Hypervisor 8.0 (ESXi 8.0) or vSphere vCenter Server 8.0 using the VMware Host Client.

3. Checking if VMware Tools is installed in the Virtual Machine.

Check the summary information for the virtual machine.

4. Interacting with the Virtual Machine.

Select the Open Console function so you can interact with the virtual machine.

5. Log in to the virtual machine.

Select Actions > Guest OS > Send Keys > CTRL-ALT-DEL

6. Installing VMware Tools for Windows

Select Actions > Guest OS > Install VMware Tools

7. Reboot the Server.

Shutdown and reboot the server.
