One of my PCs goes frequently offline, as reported in the system tray. In such case, I am unable to connect to the server. I still have Internet access during the offline period. Therefore, is definitely not a hardware problem. Even more, periodically the system tray inform me about that "You can now connect to 'Mainserver'". If I reboot or logon again is 100% times connected to the server.
The server is running W Server 2003 R2 and I this issue may happen in other computers on the LAN but has not been reported to me.
Thanks

If your server is down, is your network configured such that you would still have Internet access? Â DHCP on router, etc? Â If yes, then it could still be a hardware problem. Â In which case, Â I would check ethernet connections along the entire path to your server. Â Intermittent often means hardware problem. Â
If it isn't a hardware problem, it might be a winsock corruption. Â Here is a quicky to try at the command prompt.
NETSH WINSOCK RESET Â Â Then reboot your computer. Â

The event to go offline is random and sometimes it does not occur in a typical once-a-day frequency. As I was getting happy that the problem seemed to be fixed, it just did it again. I am sending you the screen picture. Thanks for the help. Any other ideas? Could it be any problem in the Active Directory? (I don't have a GP setup)
Thank again.

Several PC's in my network had identical symptons to those described in the original post and it turned out that somehow "File and printer sharing" had got turned off on those PC's.

Windows Server 2003 was based on Windows XP and was released in four editions: Web, Standard, Enterprise and Datacenter. It also had derivative versions for clusters, storage and Microsoft’s Small Business Server. Important upgrades included integrating Internet Information Services (IIS), improvements to Active Directory (AD) and Group Policy (GP), and the migration to Automated System Recovery (ASR).
