Computer goes offline frequently.

Hi there,

One of my PCs goes frequently offline, as reported in the system tray. In such case, I am unable to connect to the server. I still have Internet access during the offline period. Therefore, is definitely not a hardware problem. Even more, periodically the system tray inform me about that "You can now connect to 'Mainserver'". If I reboot or logon again is 100% times connected to the server.
The server is running W Server 2003 R2 and I this issue may happen in other computers on the LAN but has not been reported to me.

Thanks

Have you checked the Power Management Settings on the machine?  (Hybernation or Standby mode)

Well, it happens to go offline even when I am working at the computer. I checked anyway and its setup for "Never" to all settings.

Thanks
I wouldn't be so sure about it not being a hardware problem.

If your server is down, is your network configured such that you would still have Internet access?   DHCP on router, etc?   If yes, then it could still be a hardware problem.   In which case,  I would check ethernet connections along the entire path to your server.   Intermittent often means hardware problem.

If it isn't a hardware problem, it might be a winsock corruption.   Here is a quicky to try at the command prompt.

NETSH WINSOCK RESET     Then reboot your computer.

GaryFuqua, I tried your recommendation by connecting th PC to a different RJ45 and the command to reset the winsock. Delphineous, I found that I had checked the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" and, therefore, I unchecked.
The event to go offline is random and sometimes it does not occur in a typical once-a-day frequency. As I was getting happy that the problem seemed to be fixed, it just did it again. I am sending you the screen picture. Thanks for the help. Any other ideas? Could it be any problem in the Active Directory? (I don't have a GP setup)

Have you checked the server event logs (system and application) for any errors that may have occured at the same time?

Delphineous, I haven't found any referencing errors in the event logs. However, I think overall is disconnecting less than before. The last time it got disconnected was when I posted. I can say that something has changed. In fact, I updated the network driver as you suggested.  I 'll update this post as soon as it may get disconnected again or in a week whichever occur first.
Thank again.

I am having the same problem.  Did you happen to resolve this problem?

If using Windows Firewall then check that the "File and Printer sharing" exception box is ticked (and that exceptions are allowed).
Several PC's in my network had identical symptons to those described in the original post and it turned out that somehow "File and printer sharing" had got turned off on those PC's.
Sorry to revive something so old, but what was the ACTUAL solution here? Mobilincus never replied...
Windows Server 2003
Windows Server 2003

Windows Server 2003 was based on Windows XP and was released in four editions: Web, Standard, Enterprise and Datacenter. It also had derivative versions for clusters, storage and Microsoft’s Small Business Server. Important upgrades included integrating Internet Information Services (IIS), improvements to Active Directory (AD) and Group Policy (GP), and the migration to Automated System Recovery (ASR).
