Capturing your keystrokes
My OS is win10 pro 64 bit.  I want to evaluate a new application, and am trying to capture the sequence of the keystrokes as I navigate thru the application.  Can the experts please suggest what is the best way to do this, so that I will know how I went thru it all.  I have a video camera, and I wonder if this also can be used, though the screens may be small, but let me hear what the experts say first.  Thank u.

maybe you can use a macrorecorder - then you can play it back - and even change it
here  one, but there are free ones to be found also

there are hardware keyloggers / keygrabbers you connect between puter and keyboard,
still spyware, but obviously you want to spy yourself.

But it does not alter your software setup or security features
which might be beneficial for your test.

What is it that is displaying on your desktop? in refs to> trying to capture the sequence of the keystrokes as I navigate thru the application. < keystrokes a single press of a key on a keyboard.
If I understand you you want to record what keys you press?
In combination with what the application is showing on your desktop.
Hard to tell since I cant imagine what the keyboard has to do with this as normally interaction with a program setup is the mouse.
What you see on the screen is more important'
What I would do is record your voice talking at the same time capturing your desktop.

Tools required a desktop capture tool and mic, A mic you should already have,
the capture tool should have record audio with video. This will need to be setup and tested for volume/s
This way you speak into the mic stating the keys used on the keyboard and steps used while pointing them out on the screen with your curser. Speaking your steps is faster and simpler. In the end you have one complete video.
I use Fraps bought version with the half size recording at 30 frames a sec, this way you record you full desktop but the output size is smaller
Both record audio as well however record to raw avi ( render on the fly) so the out put video is large 33secs  comes out at around 662megs  Fraps so you can see why it’s necessary to convert them,
but converting them to a smaller mp4 solves that.
and cam studio.
Here's one I made 7 years ago using cam studio and on window xp, I just recorded my voice with the desktop capture.

Any  multimedia software bundles with your windows 10?
Windows moviemaker was simple and good and free with windows 7.
Your thoughts?

I would like to share the points with Merete but everytime I am at EE, I am hit by redirects , especially to  the reimage site.

Hi jegajothy, are you saying that the links for Fraps  / camstudio and youtube are redirecting you to reimage sites??
That concerns me as I dont get that when accessing those sites, I post good sites that I use myself?
Thanks

@jegajothy―I have to agree with Merete! I have never had any problems with her links...

Perhaps you should give your PC/laptop a good scan with Malwarebytes.

In any case, if you have a shoot-and-point camera (or a cell phone) that takes videos you can find an easy way to hold it steady while making a video of what you are doing, like clamping it to the back of a chair or on a small ladder.

I have been hit viruses and malwares which I am trying to clean them out, getting the advice from another post here.  But have to use my laptop for this post meanwhile.  thank u for your queries.

run psr.exe (problem steps recorder) it will record your activity with PC , recording mouse + keyboard activity. when you press to stop recording , it is all converted to a zip file that contains a mhtml file which is a list of what happened and why during the recording period.

an extremely useful, yet totally unheard of bit of software just built in to windows.. psr.exe

Software is any set of instructions that directs a computer to perform specific tasks or operations. Computer software consists of programs, libraries and related non-executable data (such as documentation). Computer software is non-tangible, contrasted with computer hardware, which is the physical component of computers. Software written in a machine language is known as "machine code". However, in practice, software is usually written in high-level programming languages than machine language. High-level languages are translated into machine language using a compiler or interpreter or a combination of the two.
