Active Directory Users and Computers - can't find user based on Logon/UPN, but can on sAmAccountName
There are some users that I cannot "find" in ADUC when I search the whole domain by entering their UPN/Logon name (JDoe@domain.com).
However if I type "JDoe", it will find them.

If I do an AD Powershell search based on their UPN, I can find it there as well:
Get-ADUser -Filter { UserPrincipalname -eq "JDoe@domain.com"}

So why may I not be able to find this user when I put "JDoe@domain.com" into the ADUC search box?

I've tried that but cannot find the user based on their UPN/logon name "JDoe@domain.com" username format.
Even right-clicking in/on the specific OU they are sitting in, or whether I search against the parent domain entirely.

In any case, however, I can find them based on their sAMAccountName "Jdoe".

I can find many other users based on their UPN, however.
I wonder if this has to do with these accounts being "restored" from a backup recently?

How many DC's do you have in your domain?

There are 5 and I've confirmed the object is replicated.

Interestingly, in the search box,  I can go to "Advanced" tab and choose Field "Logon Name" Is (exactly) and put in the JDoe@domain.com and click Find Now, and it will find them.

I just can't find them from the main Users, Contacts, and Groups search page, when I put the value into the "Name" box.

Active Directory (AD) is a Microsoft brand for identity-related capabilities. In the on-premises world, Windows Server AD provides a set of identity capabilities and services, and is hugely popular (88% of Fortune 1000 and 95% of enterprises use AD). This topic includes all things Active Directory including DNS, Group Policy, DFS, troubleshooting, ADFS, and all other topics under the Microsoft AD and identity umbrella.
