Sync Local AD and office 365 users

I have a client who already has an office 365 account with existing users setup. They also have a local AD on premise. I need to link the two together so that when they change their user password it will sync with their user on office 365 for exchange.  The on premise AD is a .local and the office 365 is the actual domain .com. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You need to use Azure Active Directory Sync. https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/Dn790204.aspx.

There are a few things that you need to do to get this to work properly.  The first thing is to and an secondary UPN that matches your public domain name.
Here is the how to that you should follow.

AAD Sync is deprecated now, you should use Azure AD Connect: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/connect/active-directory-aadconnect
