The other day Rourke told me about a game called Screeps where you code your AI units in Javascript. I'm surprised I haven't heard about these types of games before! The reviews say there's a barrier to entry for novice programmers but hopefully that won't scare too many off.
Thanks for posting.
Yes it's a great concept, code your units and then walk away for a while and see how they do on their own!
Certainly there's a great incentive to up your js game! Currently there are some issues with server side nodes which are mainly down to the game's unexpected popularity and the devs are rolling out a compartmented vm solution which should result in some big performance improvements . Personally I think the subscription model needs tweaking but this is untested ground as the game is continuously playing whether the client is watching or not. It deserves to be a big hit and bring many more into coding for both work and for play. I;m seeing it on a lot of Steam Wishlists!
So this year I decided it was really about time I applied for the
@vExpert subprograms, and guess what! I'm in! So Thanks to our Programme Manager @vCommunityGuy and Sub Programme Business Units!
